  • Patent number: 4543167
Abstract: Chromium is electroplated from a bath which includes a trivalent chromium salt and chloride ions. Chlorine gas production at the anode is reduced through the incorporation in the plating bath of at least one salt having a nitrogen containing cation and at least one soluble salt yielding from about 0.001 mole per liter to about 0.01 mole per liter of bromide ion. The bath can further include sulfate ions, formate and boric acid or borate ions.

  • Patent number: 4183789
Abstract: In accordance with certain of its aspects this invention relates to a process and composition for the prevention of anode bag clogging in the preparation of an electrodeposit which contains nickel or; binary or ternary alloys of the metals selected from nickel, iron and cobalt; which comprises passing current from an anode to a cathode through an aqueous acidic electroplating solution containing at least one member selected from the group consisting of nickel compounds and cobalt compounds and which may additionally contain iron compounds providing nickel, cobalt and iron ions for electrodepositing nickel, cobalt, nickel-cobalt alloys, nickel-iron alloys, cobalt-iron alloys or nickel-iron-cobalt alloys and containing an amount of oxalic acid break-down product; the improvement comprising the presence of 2.times.10.sup.-3 mole per liter to 1.0 mole per liter of a calcium compound or salt thereby preventing the clogging of anode bags by precipitation of calcium oxalate.

  • Patent number: 4101388
Abstract: This invention relates to a process and composition for the preparation of an electrodeposit which contains at least one metal selected from the group consisting of nickel, cobalt and iron, which comprises passing current from an anode to a cathode through an aqueous plating solution containing at least one member selected from the group consisting of cobalt compounds and nickel compounds and iron compounds to provide cobalt, nickel and ferrous ions for electrodepositing cobalt, nickel, nickel-cobalt alloys, nickel-iron alloys, or nickel-cobalt-iron alloys the improvement comprising the presence of an effective amount of at least one compound or salt which in solution yields at least one member selected from the group consisting of cations of lanthanum, cerium, praseodymium, neodymium, promethium, samarium, europium, gadolinium, terbium, dysprosium, holmium, erbium, thulium, ytterbium, and lutetium in the said baths in a single or combined concentration of 0.1 gram per liter to 20 grams per liter.
