  • Patent number: 6633913
Abstract: A system and method provide users the ability to quickly and efficiently transfer images from a scanner to an online web page. In particular, the system can be implemented as follows. A scanner scans an image in order to generate a scanned image. A transferring mechanism takes the scanned image generated by said scanner, and transfers the scanned image to a web device for storage. The web device is located on and accessed by a network. The web device manages and stores scanned images.

  • Patent number: 6567547
Abstract: An optical character recognition (OCR) scanning system utilizes a memory device, a registry, a scanning application, a processor, and a scanning device to scan the text of documents into memory. The scanning device is configured to capture an image of a document in response to a scan command from the scanning application. The scanning application locally stores a set of current parameter values indicating the location in the memory device of the OCR package that should be used to currently analyze and interpret images produced by the scanning device. If the scanning application receives a message to update the current parameter values, the scanning application retrieves new parameter values from the registry and stores these values in the memory device as the current parameter values. If the scanning application receives a message to initiate a document scan, the scanning application transmits the scan command to the scanning device and retrieves the current parameter values from the memory device.

  • Patent number: 5944292
Abstract: The trackball mounting apparatus of the present invention functions to orient the data input device in an ergonomically correct mode. The preferred embodiment of the invention is in the form of a trackball connected to the personal computer via a cable and attached to the mounting apparatus in an orientation that is parallel to the normal position of the palm of the user's hand so that the user can maintain their hand in a normal at rest position while operating the data input device. The use of this apparatus therefore reduces the strain on the user's hand and arm muscles as well as reducing the extent to which the data input device protrudes from the side of the personal computer. Furthermore, this mounting apparatus enables the user to make use of an adjunct data input device, connected to the personal computer via a cable, as a stationary pointing device.
