  • Patent number: 6411703
Abstract: Method and system are provided for efficient telephone number portability within a geographically dispersed telephony and the like switching system, wherein ported telephone numbers, when dialled and found non-existent at their number-inherent destination, a “Release Treatment” with a trigger (automatic flexible routing) searches in a database from the originating switching node or office, whereupon their new network node address is directly connected to following normal routing procedures; thus permitting realistically affordable telephone number portability, particularly local number portability (LNP).

  • Patent number: 6389118
Abstract: An electronic switch in a telephone system provides automatic connection of a subscriber going off-hook to a SN/IP, while at the same time remaining responsive to dialing by the subscriber. The switch also permits access code dialing connection to the SN/IP and provides dial pulse to DTKF conversion over the connection path. Upon request by a off-hook subscriber connected to the SN/IP by the switch, the SN/IP can perform dialing or invoke other call features which will be processed by the switch as if requested by the off-hook subscriber.

  • Patent number: 6373828
Abstract: A method and apparatus for a handover of a communication signal (370) associated with a mobile communication unit (116) between a Generic C-based wireless communication system (302) and a MSC-based wireless communication system (304), is disclosed. The handover method includes establishing a plurality of trunks (401) between a landline switch (316) and a MSC (317). The method also includes configuring a landline number routing table (403) and a landline trunk group table (404) in the landline switch (316), a mobile trunk group table (406) in the MSC (317), and establishing a message translation table (405) in the computing platform (312), such that one of the plurality of trunks and an associated signaling path to the computing platform (312) are always selected when the handover is required.

  • Patent number: 6332022
Abstract: Emergency services calls may be alternate-routed in an intelligent network having at least one Service Control Point (SCP) with access to a routing table, a plurality of Service Switching Points (SSP) equipped with point-in-call triggers and one or more emergency services stations (PSAP). The routing table lists a routing number for each of the emergency services stations. The alternate routing involves presetting a point-in-call trigger at a Service Switching Point to operate at a predetermined point in a call for emergency services. During subsequent processing of an emergency services call, the trigger interrupts processing of the call and and prompts transmission to the SCP of a query signalling message requesting routing information.

  • Patent number: 6137806
Abstract: In an intelligent network comprising a plurality of Service Signalling Points (SSP) and a Service Control Point (SCP), improved handling of overload conditions at the Service Control Point is provided by means of a Network Signalling Point interposed between the SSPs and the SCP. The Network Signalling Point (NSP) has a store for storing a copy of each message the NSP sends to various Point Codes, including that of the SCP; and service software for monitoring its links based upon associated Point Codes. If the NSP does not receive, within a preset time period, a response to a message sent to a particular destination Point Code via a particular link that is intact, the service software module will retrieve the stored copy of the message, replace the original destination Point Code with an alternative Point Code, and route the modified message to the alternative Point Code.

  • Patent number: 6094478
Abstract: A method and system are disclosed for extending the directory number of a terminal. The invention allows service providers to provide a service which uses an existing subscriber directory number and effectively extends it to include one or more other directory numbers. To the subscriber, the terminals associated with the other directory numbers effectively look like virtual extensions. The method and system provide this flexibility without requiring any additional personal numbers being assigned to the subscriber. The subscriber can choose to have all incoming calls to a directory number (DN) of one of their existing terminals alert or ring one or more other terminals having a different DN. The terminals may for example be on the same network (e.g. all on the wireline network) or they may be on different networks (e.g. one on the wireline network and one on the wireless network).

  • Patent number: 5881145
Abstract: In a telephone network having a plurality of network nodes, each having a unique network address and using out-of-band signalling for call setup and routing, a method is provided for the routing of calls to a "ported" directory number which has been ported from a donor network node to a recipient network node. The method comprises the steps of (i) routing the call, using the ported directory number as the Called Party Number, from an originating network node towards the donor network node; (ii) intercepting the call at an intermediate network node between the originating network node and the donor network node, through which intermediate network node calls to the donor network node must pass; (iii) converting the ported directory number to a network address of the recipient network node; (iv) routing the call to the recipient network node using said network address; and (v) at the recipient network node, completing the call to the ported directory number.

  • Patent number: 5867570
Abstract: Portability of directory numbers in telephone networks, particularly so-called intelligent networks, may be provided without modification of the call processing software at originating network node switches, by associating each call to a ported number with an Initial Address Message comprising a Location Routing Number for the recipient switch as the Called Number and the ported directory number as the Original Called Number. At a boundary with a network which uses a Location Routing Number, a Generic Address Parameter and a Forward Call Indicator flag for identifying calls to ported numbers, a network element creates a modified routing message by converting the Original Called Number to a Generic Address Parameter and setting a Forwarded Call Indicator flag to indicate a translated originally-dialled called number. The network element then uses the converted Initial Address Message to route the call into the second network.

  • Patent number: 5502759
Abstract: An apparatus and accompanying methods for preventing telephone toll fraud that relies on the use of centralized voice verification to authenticate a party claiming a particular identity and requesting service, i.e. access to a telephone network. A voice verification intelligent peripheral (VVIP) (300) is interposed between, e.g., a tandem switch (40) and a voice service node (VSN) (250) both used to provide alternate automated billing service (AABS). The VVIP intercepts all call processing messages that occur between these two components and, at a pre-defined point during the processing of an AABS call, holds a call processing message, specifically a successful line information database (LIDB) query response message, until a voice verification of a caller is complete.
