  • Patent number: 4684152
Abstract: A pair of A-frames and a pair of torque tubes are used in a body support structure of an off highway vehicle to carry all of the load of the vehicle. The vehicle load in the rear is carried directly on the torque tubes and the front load is cantilevered from the torque tubes.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 20, 1981
Date of Patent: August 4, 1987
Inventors: Edgar R. Goodbary, Francis A. Bartley
  • Patent number: 4190265
Abstract: An off-highway dump vehicle of the bottom-dump, two axle type having a single wheel in all positions; an A-frame front suspension which provides large steering angles for the vehicle wheels; an A-frame rear suspension system separate from the front suspension system; a dual braking system comprising primary and secondary brakes actuated by a common brake pedal and arranged wherein the secondary brakes are automatically actuated upon failure of the primary brakes for any reason; the vehicle structural elements being pinned together for facilitating assembly and disassembly thereof for shipment of the vehicle to the site of operation thereof; the vehicle load in the rear is carried directly on torque tubes and the front load is cantilevered from the torque tubes; the vehicle deck is a "floating" type structure in that the only elements carried by the deck are the fluid lines for the braking system, steering system, and the like; the access door to the axle box is of a self-closing construction in that air press
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 4131177
Abstract: A dual steering system for vehicles, particularly for large and heavy off-highway vehicles, wherein a back-up steering system is provided for safety purposes. Dual hydraulic systems are provided and coordinated whereby in the event the primary steering system fails for any reason, the back-up steering system automatically assumes the entire steering operation, thus providing a safety feature for the vehicle.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 23, 1976
Date of Patent: December 26, 1978
    Assignee: Goodbary Engineering Company
Inventors: Edgar R. Goodbary, Francis A. Bartley
  • Patent number: 4106813
Abstract: Door opening and closing apparatus for actuation of the doors of a bottom dump type vehicle, said apparatus comprising a common linkage mechanism operable by a single power means for simultaneous and synchronized opening of the doors whereby emptying of the contents of the dump body is facilitated. In addition, a transversely extending centrally disposed partition is provided in the dump body for distributing the load of material accumulating in the dump body in a manner for substantially equalizing the load stress on the vehicle.

Date of Patent: August 15, 1978
    Assignee: Goodbary Engineering Co.
    Inventor: Edgar R. Goodbary
  • Patent number: 4082363
Abstract: A support member for a wheel rim of an off-highway vehicle for facilitating the independent securing of the large wheels and associated disc brakes to the vehicle, and a relief groove on the brake disc for dissipation of heat during a braking operation in order to eliminate or preclude fusing of the disc to stationary elements of the braking apparatus thus facilitating the removal of the disc for replacement or the like.
