  • Patent number: 10948975
Abstract: Media guidance application that allows users to associate input schemes with physical objects in an augmented reality environment is disclosed. Specifically, the media guidance application may recognize physical objects in an augmented reality environment and allow users to identify input schemes to associate with the physical objects. Such input schemes may define ways in which the users may control presentation of media content by interacting with the physical objects.

  • Publication number: 20210058672
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided herein for providing a storyline based media content. At least two storylines may be identified, each storyline specifying an order of providing a plurality of episodes from a plurality of interrelated series. Identifiers of the plurality of episodes are displayed. Then identifiers of a first set of the plurality of episodes that are relevant to the first storyline are graphically modified to indicate relevance to the first storyline. Identifiers of a second set of the plurality of episodes that are relevant to the second storyline are also graphically modified to indicate relevance to the second storyline. A first and second storyline identifier are generating for display to enable storyline selection. The interrelated series are then provided to a user device in the order specified by the selected storyline.

  • Patent number: 10861444
Abstract: Systems and methods are described for determining whether to activate a voice activated device based on a speaking cadence of the user. When the user speaks with a first cadence the system may determine that the user does not intend to activate the device and may accordingly not to trigger a voice activated device. When the user speaks with a second cadence the system may determine that the user does wish to trigger the device and may accordingly trigger the voice activated device.

  • Publication number: 20190371330
Abstract: Systems and methods for distinguishing valid voice commands from false voice commands in an interactive media guidance application. In some aspects, the interactive media guidance application receives, at a user device, a signature sound sequence. The interactive media guidance application determines, using control circuitry, based on the signature sound sequence, a threshold gain for the current location of the user device. The interactive media guidance application receives, at the user device, a voice command. The interactive media guidance application determines, using the control circuitry, based on the voice command, a gain for the voice command. The interactive media guidance application determines, using the control circuitry, whether the gain for the voice command is different from the threshold gain. Based on determining that the gain for the voice command is different from the threshold gain, the interactive media guidance application executes, using the control circuitry, the voice command.

  • Publication number: 20180048940
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided herein for alerting a user about a media event using a home security application of the user. A media guidance application may determine that a media event is beginning at a given time, and may determine that a user whose profile indicates that the user would enjoy the media event is not consuming media corresponding to the media event at the given time. In response to determining that the user is not consuming the media at the given time, the media guidance application may access a home security application of the user, and may identify, using the home security application, the respective room within which the user is located at the given time. The media guidance application may then cause a speaker of a plurality of speakers that is within the respective room to alert the user that the media event is beginning.

  • Publication number: 20170347162
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided herein for selecting supplemental content for display near a user device during presentation of a media asset on the user device. Often, the playback of the media asset when displayed at the user's home is limited to a single display, such as on a television or tablet. By selecting supplemental content for display near a user device during presentation of the media asset, the playback of the media asset will encompass multiple displays and provide a more immersive viewing experience for the user.

  • Publication number: 20170345178
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided herein for a media guidance application for determining a region near a user device for displaying supplemental content during presentation of a media asset on the user device. Traditionally, there is only a single display of content in the room for the user. This system determines where in the area around the user device to display the supplemental content to ensure an immersive viewing experience. Doing so requires monitoring of the area around the user device, determining which regions are available for the display of the supplemental content, and determining which supplemental content to display in which regions around the user device.

  • Publication number: 20170329397
Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for navigating a media guidance application using gaze control. A media guidance application may have an option to transform the display into a gaze-control mode, which may, for example, change the size, shape, and/or location of certain indicators on the screen to make them easier to select using gaze control. The media guidance application may determine and rank the indicators that are most likely to be selected by the user. Higher-ranked indicators may be relatively larger in size and placed closer to the center of a displayed media guidance screen, while lower-ranked indicators may be relatively smaller and placed closer to the periphery of the displayed media guidance screen. The indicators may correspond to, among others, listings for media assets, categories of media asserts, or media guidance options/commands.

  • Patent number: 9743139
Abstract: Systems and methods are described for a media guidance application that enables a user to distinguish media assets that overlap with the user's appointments from media assets that do not. Specifically, a media guidance application may access the user's calendar application and receive the user's calendar data from that calendar application. The media guidance application may compare the user's calendar data with media asset scheduling data in order to determine whether any overlaps exist. For each overlapping media asset, the media guidance application may store a conflict indicator. The media guidance application may generate for display a set of media asset identifiers (e.g., program listings) where the media asset identifiers that overlap with at least one calendar appointment are visually distinguished from the media asset identifiers that do not overlap with any calendar appointments.
