  • Publication number: 20100311551
Abstract: An adjustably weighted exercise device comprises a wrap or sleeve with pockets for selectively receiving weight bars, each pocket having an access opening via which a weight bar may be inserted into that pocket, the access opening being at a location spaced from the ends of the pocket such that the weight bar is longer than the length of a bottom portion of the pocket extending from the access opening to the bottom of the pocket. An elastic section at the upper edge of the access opening permits the upper portion of the pocket to be stretched to receive and retain the upper portion of the weight bar. The number of pockets is maximized to enhance weight adjustability by providing the pockets in plural compartments, the compartments being located in two transversely spaced columns.

  • Patent number: 7740570
Abstract: An elastomeric band exercise device is modified by adding a cushion to the band to permit it to be comfortably stepped on with a bare foot without discomfort. The modification is particularly advantageous when the device is used in performing aquatic exercises. Each handle has a waterproof friction grip covering a steel weight bar. The handle is connected to the band by a retainer ball in the end of the band and a washer inserted between the ball and a throat in the handle through which the band is extended.

  • Patent number: 6692415
Abstract: A handle for use with an elastomeric tube in a resistance exercise device is generally U-shaped with a grip removably secured between opposite ends of the handle. A frusto-conical throat is defined through the nadir of the U-shape and receives one end of the tube. A retainer ball of greater diameter than the tube is inserted into one diametrically stretched end of the tube. The diameter of the retainer ball is smaller than the large diameter proximal end of the throat but greater than the small diameter distal end of the throat. With the end of the tube stretched about the retainer ball, the ball compresses the tube wall against the frusto-conical throat wall with a force that increases as the tension in the tube increases (i.e., as the tube is pulled distally). As a result, the tube is prevented from becoming loose and becoming disengaged from the handle during use.

  • Patent number: 6669608
Abstract: An exercise vest includes a plurality of weight receiving vest pockets, all disposed on the outer surface of the vest at locations spaced from the wearer's spine, shoulders and upper torso. Weight receiving modules are disposed in respective vest pockets and include individual pouches for receiving the weights. The module and vest each include at least one foam padding layer to provide at least two layers of such padding between the weights and the body of the wearer.

  • Patent number: 6113521
Abstract: An exercise belt with compartments for individual exercise bar weights, which is sometimes used with some empty compartments to reduce the exercising effort, the use of elastomeric construction material for each compartment holding by its urgency the bar weights in place, rather than the use of a closure flap over all of the openings of all of the compartments even those that are empty, and being empty are not effective in providing an interengaged loop and hook connection for the closure flap.

  • Patent number: 6007461
Abstract: An exercise device with compartment-housed weights sometimes used without all weights in place, adapted for use in a pool environment by a flap which is held in place over the compartments by "VELCRO" hook and loop fasteners so as to contribute to providing a hermetic seal so that there is nominal seepage of water into empty compartments as might inadvertently add to the weight used for exercise routines.

  • Patent number: 5607378
Abstract: A method of exercising a selected muscle, e.g. the biceps, using exercise weights embodied in a device having a limb-encircling stretchable band for both establishing an attached position overlying the selected muscle and also exerting external pressure upon the encircled limb muscle during the exercise routine.

  • Patent number: 5308299
Abstract: A hand exerciser of a type having two hand grips squeezed together form an open position against the resistance of a spring and then released to again assume their open position which is achieved using a movement-limiting link, in which the link is limited in descending movement along length positions of the spring which unavoidably occur when the hand grips are together to a position which obviates "catching" on the spring that would impede opening movement. The link is held in a position where the spring connecting structure is angular rather than straight, which is less vulnerable to "catching".

  • Patent number: 5127891
Abstract: An exercise device worn as a wrist band having provision for exercise weights in a compartment formed between front and rear panels stitched to each other along opposite side and bottom edges, and having velcro strips along confronting upper edges serving as a closure for the weights' compartment and completing the attachment to each other of the front and rear panels.

  • Patent number: 5060934
Abstract: A hand exerciser with grip handles which in use are alternately squeezed and released against the urgency of a spring, in which the spring in use is replaceable with another spring of different resistance, to thereby correspondingly vary the resistance of the exercise routine.

  • Patent number: 5054772
Abstract: A jump rope handle having a ball bearing about the end of the "rope" inserted in the handle in which the opposite sides of the bearing outer race are held between a flange and the exercise weight which in practice has been found to cause a spinning mode in the inner race which generates a greater rope-turning speed during exercising use of the jump rope.

  • Patent number: 4997183
Abstract: A fabric body of a rectangular shape for encircling a user's ankle. The fabric is constructed with a plurality of side-by-side compartments, each having an opening thereinto to receive a weight, and including a pair of flaps attached in lengthwise extending relation from the opposite ends of the device and wherein each flap has an upwardly inclined edge which in the ankle-encircling position cooperates with the other flap upwardly inclined edge to thereby form an inverted V-shape which contributes to holding the device in position during the exercising use thereof.

  • Patent number: 4966365
Abstract: A fabric body of a rectangular shape for encircling a user's limb. The fabric body includes a plurality of side-by-side compartments each receiving a packet of particulate, and a foam panel occupying an interposed position between the body and the user's limb. The particulate conforms to the shape of the user's limb, and in conjunction with the foam panel contributes to comfort during the wearing of the body.
