  • Publication number: 20230420212
Abstract: A method for generating multi-stream electron beams is disclosed, the method including connecting an inner cathode to a cathode stalk, connecting an outer cathode to the cathode stalk, driving the cathode stalk with a pulsed power generator at a single potential, producing a first electron beam from the inner cathode, and producing a second electron beam from the outer cathode. Implementations of the method for generating multi-stream electron beams may include where each of the inner cathode and the outer cathode may include nested magnetically insulated coaxial diodes (MICDs). The first electron beam and the second electron beam can be generated with different energies. A multi-stream traveling wave tube (TWT) and an electron beam generating apparatus are also described.

  • Patent number: 8324811
Abstract: A cathode for use in a magnetron may include a plurality of longitudinally oriented emitter regions disposed around a longitudinal axis of the cathode. Each emitter region can be configured to emit electrons and adjacent emitter regions can be separated from one another by openings. The emitter regions can be configured to promote simultaneous cathode priming, magnetic priming, and electrostatic priming.

  • Patent number: 7893621
Abstract: An “eggbeater” cathode comprising a transparent cathode including a plurality of longitudinally oriented cathode strips anchored at both ends between support discs and forming an open-walled hollow cylindrical structure. A cathode base is disposed substantially coaxially with a longitudinal axis of the transparent cathode and surrounded by the plurality of cathode strips, wherein the support discs secure the cathode strips to the cathode base and result in a cathode that is more robust in harsh operating environments compared with a simple transparent cathode.

  • Publication number: 20090224610
Abstract: Systems and methods for generating high power, wideband microwave radiation pulses. A pulse generating device includes a capacitor as a primary electric energy store, a source of mechanical or chemical energy for modifying the capacitance of the capacitor, which then connects to a transmission line or pulse forming line (PFL) with many times increased electromagnetic energy, a switch and a broadband radiating element such as an antenna. A high voltage pulse and accordingly a high amount of electromagnetic energy is formed owing to decreasing the capacitance of an initially charged capacitor by dynamically changing a configuration of capacitor electrodes using mechanical work. The final configuration forms a transmission line, with the voltage and electric energy increased by the ratio of initial capacitance to final capacitance when the charge on the modifying capacitor is conserved.

  • Patent number: 6134295
Abstract: An apparatus dedicated to taking diagnostic quality images to confirm the accuracy of radiotherapy treatments. The apparatus is sufficiently compact to be used in the existing treatment heads of linear accelerators capable of delivering both electron and x-ray radiation. A compact electron drift tube is made long enough to penetrate the substantial shielding of a linear accelerator, thereby obviating the need to locate the entire generating device within the head of the machine. The diameter of the drift tube of the present invention is made small enough to penetrate the shielding without causing undue leakage of radiation.
