  • Publication number: 20160108994
Abstract: A manual transmission is provided having a plurality of planar gear sets for achieving multiple forward gear ratios. The transmission also has an idler gear, a first planar gear set, a first shift linkage member, and an intermediate linkage member. The first shift linkage member has a synchronizer portion and a fork portion. The intermediate linkage member has a partial engagement cam portion that contacts and urges the fork portion of the shift linkage member to partially engage the synchronizer and the output member with the third gear prior to shifting the idler gear to mesh the input shaft with the output shaft.

  • Patent number: 8567582
Abstract: A synchronizer assembly includes a synchronizer sleeve that engages a first gearwheel of the transmission. The synchronizer sleeve and the first gearwheel are rotatable about a shaft, and the synchronizer sleeve is axially moveable along the shaft. The synchronizer assembly further includes a synchronizer ring that contacts a second gearwheel of the transmission to selectively engage the synchronizer sleeve. The synchronizer ring includes a synchronizer spring that selectively abuts the second gearwheel to push the synchronizer ring against the synchronizer sleeve, and a plurality of lugs that engage the second gearwheel. The synchronizer spring is retained on the plurality of lugs.

  • Publication number: 20130118285
Abstract: A shift assembly for a manual transmission includes a decoupled inertial mass. The decoupled mass is active only to assist and complete the shift (longitudinal shift lever movement) and is inactive during selection (lateral shift lever motion). A shift tower includes a stub shaft which is translated axially by a first shift cable through a first linkage. This motion corresponds to lateral motion of the shift lever (selection). A radial arm is rotated by a second shift cable through a second linkage. This motion corresponds to longitudinal motion (gear engagement) of the shift lever. A mass of dense material is mounted on the arm which is received about the stub shaft and connected thereto by a member in a slot that rotationally couples the arm and mass to the stub shaft but allows unrestricted (uncoupled) axial motion between the arm (and mass) and the stub shaft.
