  • Patent number: 6701799
Abstract: A pedal adjustment system for an automobile having an accelerator cable and a master cylinder pushrod with a free end, the system having a brake pedal secured to a lower end of a brake pedal arm and an accelerator pedal secured to a lower end of an accelerator pedal arm. The adjustment of the brake pedal arm is effected by pivoting about the free end of the master cylinder pushrod, which pivotally engages the brake pedal arm between its ends, the pivoting being done by imposing a reversible force from an electric motor and gearbox assembly attached to an upper end of the brake pedal arm. The accelerator pedal arm, an upper end of which engages the accelerator cable, is adjusted in unison with the brake pedal arm by providing an accelerator pedal adjustment link, an upper end of which is coaxial with the brake pedal arm and a lower end of which is pivotally attached to the accelerator pedal arm at a location between the upper and lower ends of the accelerator pedal arm.

  • Patent number: 5823064
Abstract: A method of adjusting a control panel having an axis of pedal arm rotation which is capable of pivotably adjusting the control pedal relative to a reaction member, such as the eyelet of a cylinder pushrod for a brake pedal or a flexible cable in case of an accelerator pedal. The adjustment device allows the control pedal to be positioned to suit the needs of a particular driver. The control pedal can be pivotably attached to a frame in any conventional manner, such as with a pivot pin. The adjustment device is mounted alongside the control pedal and to the pushrod eyelet without the need of additional support hardware other than a device for acting on the control pedal. The adjustment device includes a rotatable member for causing pivotable movement of the pedal arm relative to the reaction member. The adjustment device is maintained a predetermined distance from the pivot of the control pedal arm by a spacing device, such as a link.

  • Patent number: 5351573
Abstract: An adjustment device for an automobile control pedal which is capable of pivotably adjusting the control pedal relative to a datum point, such as the eyelet of a cylinder pushrod. The adjustment device allows the control pedal to be optimally positioned to suit the needs of a particular driver. The preferred control pedal can be pivotably attached to a frame in any conventional manner, such as with a pivot pin. The adjustment device is mounted alongside the control pedal and to the pushrod eyelet without the need of additional support hardware other than a link for maintaining a predetermined distance between the pushrod eyelet and the pivot pin of the control pedal. Consequently, the adjustment device can be readily adapted to fit conventional control pedal assemblies without significant modification. The adjustment device includes a camming device which slidably abuts the pedal arm such that rotation of the camming device causes pivotable movement of the pedal arm relative to the datum point.

  • Patent number: 5078024
Abstract: A control pedal apparatus for adjusting a control pedal of a motor vehicle such for example as a brake pedal, an accelerator pedal, or a clutch pedal. The mechanism includes a pedal arm, an adjustor member, and a bracket secured to the fire wall of the vehicle. The mechanism allows the position of the pedal pad to be adjusted slidably on the adjustor member without disturbing the position of the particular control element actuated by the pedal assembly, and selectively moves the pivot axis of the pedal assembly to maintain a fixed mechanical advantage of the pedal assembly irrespective of the position of adjustment of the pedal arm on the adjustor member. Coacting slots allow the pivot axis to be selectively moved during adjustment of the assembly but coact in response to depression of the pedal to fix the position of the pivot axis in any adjusted position of the pedal arm so that the pedal assembly pivots positively about the instantaneous assembly axis in any adjusted position of the pedal arm.
