Patent number: 11903368Abstract: An improved feeding system is provided to permit sequential entry to animals, one at a time, into a feeding station that weighs the animal, and then provides or prevents access to a single feed or feed blend based on body weight or other criteria. It exits each animal if no feed is to be provided, or after feeding for a specified period of time. The system accommodates animals housed in groups and allows individual animals to be fed precisely with minimal labour input. Feed consumption by individual animals is limited by the amount of time they remain in the feeding area of the station and the amount of feed provided to them. The system provides for the ongoing collection of data about the animals' growth, and controls and monitors feed intake and body weight.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 2021Date of Patent: February 20, 2024Assignee: Xanantec Technologies Inc.Inventors: Mark Vernon Fedorak, Liam Joseph Abrams, Martin Jacob Zuidhof, Jim Morris Kulyk, Riley Cole Stuermer, Edmond Hok Ming Lou

Patent number: 9250119Abstract: An apparatus and method is provided for characterizing adhesive bonding using an acoustic wave MEMS sensor. The sensor can consist of a silicon substrate, a thin aluminum nitride film on top of the substrate and a thin gold film above the aluminum nitride layer. An adhesive layer is added on top of the sensor and the dispersion property of acoustic waves in the layered configuration can be utilized for bonding integrity characterization. A wave dispersion model is developed to study the effect of changing the interface stiffness on the wave dispersion profile and to investigate the sensitivity of different sensor configurations. The results of the model illustrate that the dispersion profile shifts in the direction of decreasing wave velocity as the interface stiffness decreases.Type: GrantFiled: May 31, 2013Date of Patent: February 2, 2016Assignees: The Governors of the University of Alberta, Alberta Health ServicesInventors: Mohamed Mahmoud Taher El Gowini, Walied Ahmed Mohamed Moussa, Edmond Hok Ming Lou

Publication number: 20110230806Abstract: A system and method is provided for monitoring and controlling the pressure inside of an orthosis or orthotic brace. The system can measure the pressure inside of the brace using a force sensor and then, using an air bladder placed between the outside wall of the orthotic brace and the body of the person wearing the brace, deflate or inflate the air bladder as required to maintain a constant pressure between the brace and the body.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 22, 2010Publication date: September 22, 2011Inventors: Edmond Hok Ming Lou, Mark Vernon Fedorak, Nicholas Chi-Kin Lo, Christopher Charles Kirchen, Garth Eldor Thomas
