Patent number: 9625300Abstract: A measuring and dispensing device is defined for a stored flowable material. The device includes a container portion and a lid or covering portion. A first spout portion is formed as part of the container and is positioned on the outside of a sidewall, adjacent an upper rim. The first spout portion defines a measurement chamber. The lid closely fits on the upper rim of the container. A second spout portion is integrally formed with the lid and projects from the lid sidewall, adjacent an engagement rim. The second spout portion defines a pre-measurement chamber within the container sidewall. The first and second spout portions aligned upon assembly of the container and the lid, with the first spout portion positioned within the measurement chamber. The first spout portion is spaced from the second spout portion, with the spacing defining a discharge passageway for the measurement chamber.Type: GrantFiled: June 23, 2015Date of Patent: April 18, 2017Assignee: Sonoco Development, Inc.Inventors: Edmond L. Fratianni, Keith E. Antal, Chad E. Lagace

Patent number: 8387878Abstract: An illumination time of an illumination system and/or an exposure setting of an imaging system are adjusted by a proximity system operative for detecting a product entering a field of view in a bi-optical, dual window, point-of-transaction workstation. The proximity system includes an infrared emitter for emitting infrared light to the product, and an infrared sensor for sensing return infrared light from the product. Multiple predefined thresholds are stored for the sensed return infrared light, and a predefined illumination time and/or exposure setting are stored and assigned to each predefined threshold. Adjustment of the illumination time and/or of the exposure setting is performed by comparing the sensed return infrared light from the product in real time operation with the stored predefined thresholds.Type: GrantFiled: July 26, 2011Date of Patent: March 5, 2013Assignee: Symbol Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Caihua Chen, Carl Wittenberg, Chinh Tan, Michael Steele, Edmond L Fratianni, Mark Drzymala, Edward Barkan

Publication number: 20120049049Abstract: An imaging module for an imaging reader for electro-optically reading a target by image capture, includes a chassis bounding an optical compartment, an illuminating light assembly in the compartment for illuminating the target with illumination light for return from the target, an image capture assembly in the compartment for capturing return light from the target over a field of view, and a light-transmissive window for the reader. The window is supported by, and integrated with, the chassis for joint movement therewith. The window is preferably positioned in a close confronting relationship with the illuminating light assembly to resist back reflections of the illumination light from the window from entering the field of view of the image capture assembly. The integrated imaging module is shock mounted in the reader to damp shock forces.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 30, 2010Publication date: March 1, 2012Applicant: SYMBOL TECHNOLOGIES, INC.Inventors: Igor VINOGRADOV, Edmond L. Patent number: 7040538Abstract: A semiconductor detector device for detecting optical code symbols includes no more than 512 pixels. Each of the pixels has an aspect ratio that is greater than 2 to 1 with a short dimension not greater than 8 microns. In a bar code reader, a sensor for detecting the field of view of the reader includes a single semiconductor device having a collection of surfaces configured as a set of no less than 256 and no more than 512 pixels. Each of the pixels has an aspect ratio that is greater than 2 to 1, with a short dimension not less than 2 microns and not greater than 8 microns.Type: GrantFiled: July 8, 2002Date of Patent: May 9, 2006Assignee: Symbol Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Mehul Patel, Thomas D. Patent number: 6095421Abstract: A laser focus control system including a laser for generating a scanning light beam to visually illuminate an information encoded bar code symbol. A segmented photodiode detects light reflected from the symbol and generates a plurality of electrical signals, each signal based on the light energy incident on the segments of the photodiode, thereby representing the spatial intensity variations of the symbol. A scanning zone processor then filters, averages, and compares the electrical signals to a noise threshold, and assigns logic levels based on the comparisons. Thereafter, a scanning zone detector determines the corresponding scanning zone distance based on the combination of logic levels and determines whether the system has stabilized within the zone distance. The scanning zone distance is then furnished to the laser focus controller in order to adjust the laser focus of the scanning device. The system is incorporated in a shock-resistant hand-held device.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 1998Date of Patent: August 1, 2000Assignee: Symbol Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Edward Barkan, Raj Bridgelall, Jean Tu, Yuri Gofman, Joseph Giordano, Edmond L.
