  • Patent number: 6505360
Abstract: A crib having a drop side that vertically slides between lowered and raised positions includes a guiding and locking mechanism for the drop side, comprising a pair of lower guides and a pair of upper guides affixed to the crib's corner posts, and a plurality of slides affixed to the drop side and slidably engaging the guides. Each guide comprises a plate-shaped guide member and each slide defines a channel in which the guide member is slidably received. One edge of each lower guide member has a recess formed therein, and a resilient locking member integrally formed with the guide is positioned opposite the recess and urges the slide into the recess to lock the drop side in the raised position. Each lower guide also includes a second, lower recess into which the slides are urged by a second, lower resilient locking member for locking the drop side in a lowered position.

  • Publication number: 20020157182
Abstract: Concealed hardware for controlling the raising and lowering of the crib side, permits the construction of a crib which includes no projecting or exposed parts. The hardware comprises a channel member embedded within the end stiles of the crib side and an engaged coupling element fastened to the adjacent crib end. The channel member restricts movement of the crib side to vertical translation, and includes a latching chamber at the bottom which selectively traps or releases the coupling element when it is desired to secure the crib side in an elevated position.

  • Publication number: 20020153759
Abstract: A monolithic rail clip, formed from a single piece of material, comprising a plurality of integrated hooks spaced along an angled rail body for use in constructing a seat base. A pair of the rail clips are attached to a pair of opposing members of a frame of the seat base so that the integrated hooks form opposing pairs. A plurality of springs are attached to the hook pairs and stretch between the opposing members to define a resilient structure for supporting a furniture seat. Each rail clip is constructed by forming a plurality of tabs extending from one longitudinal edge the rail body and bending the tabs to form the plurality of hooks. The integral construction of the hooks reduces the assembly time of each rail and seat base. The monolithic construction of the rail clip provides additional structural rigidity to the seat base.

  • Patent number: 4110856
Abstract: The invention is a new hospital bed having a lower frame or dolly, an upper frame or mattress support, and a middle frame comprising two longitudinal beams, a head end, a foot end and a central section. The head end is formed by a single "U" shaped tube which joins the beams, holds a head board, supports the side rails, and provides recesses for IV tube support rods; the foot end is formed by a single channel having similar and additional functions as the head end; and the central section of the middle frame includes a pair of wing-like plates which form a part of and provide the principal support for the upper frame. The total number of components of the bed is substantially reduced by the design of these components to serve multiple functions, which conserves material, reduces expense, and allows for easier repair and adjustment.
