  • Patent number: 4935676
Abstract: First and second portions having different magnetizable properties are alternately disposed on a stator. A head movable relative to the stator has first and second poles each having a pair of magnetizable legs contiguous to the stator and displaced from each other, and from the other pole legs, along a first axis relative to the stator portions. The poles introduce magnetic flux in the same direction to the legs. First and second windings, each respectively associated with the legs on an individual pole, produce in one leg a flux aiding the pole flux and in another a flux opposing the pole flux. Alternating currents flow through each winding at each instant at a frequency dependent upon the head speed to the produced along the first axis at that instant. The windings are programmed to provide signals for producing a movement of the head to a plurality of different destinations along the first axis.

  • Patent number: 4395678
Abstract: A circuit for linearizing the meter movement of an analog meter provides a correction signal which is effective only in a predetermined portion of the meter movement range and which is adjustable to compensate for the specific linearity error in any given meter. Several of such circuits may be used wherein each of such circuits produces its primary effect in a portion of the meter range which is unaffected by adjustment in any of the other range portions. While the circuit finds its primary utility in providing correction signals to compensate for undesirable characteristics in display devices, analog or digital (with appropriate analog to digital conversion components) it may also be used to compensate for undesirable characteristics in display drive signals where that appears necessary.

  • Patent number: 4394742
Abstract: An internal combustion engine analyzer provides both data acquisition and data processing and includes an analog waveform analysis subsystem together with a general purpose background system wherein appropriate power distribution is provided for the system as a whole and peripheral equipment such as a printer, keyboard and an analog/digital CRT is also provided. The input signals to be analyzed are waveforms generally associated with internal combustion engines and peripheral equipment. Exemplary waveforms are the primary and secondary ignition waveforms. The waveforms are attenuated to reasonable levels and multiplexed to analog circuitry which serves to measure waveform magnitude at one or more sampling points along the length of the wave and to also measure the manner in which the characteristics of the waveform change. The analog measurements are digitized and coupled to a processor which in turn controls the operation of the analog circuitry.

  • Patent number: 4138825
Abstract: An apparatus and a method of providing runout compensation for wobble present in the measurements made of the orientation of a rotary body relative to at least a pair of planes, and including at least a pair of sensors for providing measurements angularly related to each other and with the sensors coupled to the body for providing signals representative of the measurements of the rotary body relative to at least the pair of planes at a particular angular relationship. The body is rotated through a plurality of positions for providing signals representative of the measurement of the body relative to the pair of planes at the different positions. A first output signal is produced and is representative of the orientation of the body relative to one of the planes in accordance with the measurements at the different positions in the one plane and with the measurements in the one plane used to provide a runout compensation for wobble present in the measurements.

  • Patent number: 4010368
Abstract: A gas analyzer includes a cell adapted to receive a gas mixture and a source of infrared energy adapted to introduce the energy through the cell. A particular gas in the cell absorbs the portion of the energy so that an electrical gas signal is provided which has a magnitude dependent upon the percentage of concentration of the particular gas in the mixture. This gas signal is introduced through a variable resistance and compared with a reference signal to provide an output signal for driving a meter. Prior to the introduction of the gas mixture into the cell, the variable resistance can be adjusted with respect to the reference signal to provide the output signal with a zero magnitude for zeroing the meter. The parameters of the circuit automatically provide for the calibration of the span of the meter with the calibration of the zero of the meter.
