  • Publication number: 20040116575
Abstract: A composition for forming a crystalline thermoplastic (such as polyacetal) composition for improving compatibility using a ternary blend that includes a mineral filler and elastomer material and an article made therefrom. The mineral filler may be coated or uncoated.
    Type: Application
    Filed: September 11, 2003
    Publication date: June 17, 2004
Inventors: Edmund Arthur Flexman, Mark Gary Weinberg
  • Patent number: 6433106
Abstract: A toughened polyacetal resin composition, and a process for making same, is provided by mixing a polyacetal masterbatch component, prepared from polyacetal and a relatively large amount of polyurethane, with a polyacetal dilution component so as to generate a blended composition in which the content of the thermoplastic polyurethane is about 1 to about 15 wt % of the total weight of the blended composition.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 9, 2000
Date of Patent: August 13, 2002
Assignee: E. I. du Pont de Nemours & Company
Inventors: Hiroshi Mori, Kenichi Shinohara, Edmund Arthur Flexman
  • Patent number: 6312824
Abstract: The invention provides a composition that exhibits good adhesion to polyamide material and other materials, comprising 60 to 99 weight percent of a copolyester elastomer, and 1 to 40 weight percent of a novolac resin, based on the total weight of the copolymer elastomer and the novolac resin only, wherein the composition comprises greater than 50 weight percent copolyester elastomer based on the total weight of the composition. The invention also concerns an article comprising at least two materials bonded together at one or more defined contact surfaces, a first one of the bonded materials comprising a copolyester elastomer and a novolac resin. Such bodies can be welded, injection molded, and extruded simultaneously or sequentially.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 27, 1999
Date of Patent: November 6, 2001
Assignee: E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company
Inventors: Jean-Michel Philippoz, Edmund Arthur Flexman, Jr.
  • Patent number: 6194515
Abstract: To provide a polyacetal composition with improved toughness, wear resistance, and flowability. The polyacetal composition contains 100 wt % of polyacetal and 0.5-5 wt % of a block copolymer, which has its central portion made of an amorphous polymer that forms an elastic domain at room temperature and which has polyethylene glycol chains with molecular weight of 2000 or higher at its two ends.

Date of Patent: February 27, 2001
Assignee: E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company
Inventors: Kenichi Shinohara, Edmund Arthur Flexman
  • Patent number: 5817723
Abstract: A toughened thermoplastic polymer composition comprising (a) 1-30 weight percent of a polar toughening agent compatibilized with a polyphenol, and (b) 70-99 weight percent of at least one thermoplastic polymer, the above state percentages being based on the total weight of components (a) and (b) only.
    Type: Grant

Inventors: Edmund Arthur Flexman, Jr., Tatsuhiro Takahashi, Toshikazu Kobayashi
  • Patent number: 5670575
Abstract: A toughened polyamide blend which exhibits improved toughness at exceptionally low temperatures can be prepared from:(A) 60 to 90 weight percent of a polyamide matrix resin; and(B) 10 to 40 weight percent of a rubber component including:(1) a functionalized rubber selected from ethylene/propylene copolymers and ethylene/propylene/diene terpolymers, and(2) an ethylene copolymer of the formula E/X/Y whereinE is a radical formed from ethylene and is 40 to 90 weight percent of the ethylene copolymer,X is an acrylate ester of an alcohol having 1 to 10 carbon atoms and is 10 to 80 weight percent of the ethylene copolymer, andY is selected from glycidyl methacrylate and glycidyl acrylate and is 0.5 to 10 weight percent of the ethylene copolymer.

  • Patent number: 4026967
Abstract: A continuous process is disclosed for manufacturing a grafted polymeric material of improved quality. The process is conducted in baffled tubular reactors which exhibit dispersed plug-flow character and which provide: rapid heating and cooling of reactants; short reaction time with uniform material residence time; and radial uniformity of temperature.
