    Abstract: An organic OLED having a cathode formed from a first conducting layer, an electroluminescent layer including an oxadiazole compound, and an anode constructed from a second conducting layer which is transparent to light generated by the electroluminescent layer. In one embodiment, an electron transport layer is sandwiched between the anode and electroluminescent layers. Other embodiments utilize a hole transport layer between the electroluminescent layer and the anode either with or without the electron transport layer. In one embodiment, the anode is constructed from a layer of indium tin oxide and a layer of a hole transport material that bonds to indium tin oxide and which has an energy band intermediate between that of indium tin oxide and that of the hole transport layer.

The optoelectronic element comprises a substrate bearing an anode, a film comprising an optoelectronic material, and a cathode. The cover comprises a lid and a raised rim which is recessed from the outer edge of the lid. The cover contacts the element so that the film comprising the optoelectronic material is located between the substrate and the lid, and within the region defined by the raised rim. An adhesive, located in a channel defined by the bottom surface of the lid from the outer edge to the rim, the rim, and the top surface of the optoelectronic element outside of the region defined by the rim, serves to attach the cover to the optoelectronic element.

The third part is a semiconductor layer, the semiconductor layer including a polymer, at least ten weight percent of the monomer units of the polymer being a 9-substituted fluorene unit and/or a 9,9-substituted fluorene unit, the semiconductor layer having a first side, a second side, a first end and a second end, the second side of the semiconductor layer being on the second side of the insulator layer.
