Patent number: 5901868Abstract: Switchgear is provided including an enclosure for pad-mounted installation. The enclosure includes large lift-up cover panels in combination with removable front panels so as to provide unobstructed access to the interior of the enclosure. In a preferred arrangement, the enclosure houses switchgear that includes low-voltage control and viewing arrangements that are operable from a first side of the switchgear and medium-voltage cable terminations that are accessible from a second side of the switchgear opposite the first side, the enclosure providing access to the low-voltage arrangements while providing isolation from the medium-voltage arrangements. The enclosure also includes protection from the environment in the area of the lift-up cover panels while also providing collapsible lifting members.Type: GrantFiled: December 29, 1997Date of Patent: May 11, 1999Assignee: S&C Electric CompnyInventors: Phillip J. Fahey, David H. Devonald, III, Edmund S. Dizon, John W. Estey

Patent number: 5504293Abstract: An operating mechanism that provides multiple operational output states at a first output and additional operational output states at a second output that are synchronized with the first output to provide a predetermined sequence of control. The operating mechanism includes an output lever that is pivoted by the stored energy in a spring and latch levers that are selectively operated to release the output lever. When the output lever is moved between operational positions, the output lever is stopped in its pivoting movement via the latch levers.Type: GrantFiled: April 8, 1994Date of Patent: April 2, 1996Assignee: S&C Electric CompanyInventors: Edward J. Patent number: 4815237Abstract: A sealing arrangement is provided that includes a resilient seal member that is disposed generally parallel to the pivot axis of an access door of an enclosure. The seal member includes a first leg proximate the hinge axis and extending away from the enclosure. When the door is pivoted from an open position toward the closed position, the first leg is displaced toward the enclosure. As the door is further moved toward the closed position, the first leg is additionally displaced, deformed and compressed to provide sealing of the door with respect to the enclosure. The proximity of the seal member to the hinge axis and the arrangement of the first extending leg is such that relative wiping action occurs between the door and the first extending leg. In a preferred arrangement, the seal member also includes a second leg extending from the enclosure.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 1987Date of Patent: March 28, 1989Assignee: S&C Electric CompanyInventors: Edmund S. Patent number: 4806710Abstract: A door interlock is provided for an electrical equipment enclosure which includes a drive/latch member carried by the door and a locking member carried by the enclosure. The drive/latch member is biased to a first position and movable into a second position. When the door is closed and latched, the drive/latch member is moved from the first position into the second position. During movement between the first and second positions, the drive/latch member engages the locking member and moves the locking member from a first position wherein a switch is prevented from being closed into a second position wherein the switch is permitted to be closed. When the switch is closed, the locking member is retained in the second position; the drive/latch member being retained in the second position by the locking member. With the drive/latch member in the second position, the door is prevented from being opened by cooperation with facilities carried by the enclosure.Type: GrantFiled: September 10, 1987Date of Patent: February 21, 1989Assignee: S&C Electric CompanyInventors: Arvydas J. Patent number: 4489966Abstract: A latch for a door or cover associated with a wall or enclosure. A movable latch arm on the door or cover is spring biased to engage a projection on the wall or enclosure when the door or cover is closed. A blocking member on the door or cover is biased for movement into the path of movement of the arm to prevent its engagement of the projection. With the door or cover closed, the projection holds the blocking member out of the arm's path. Movement of the arm to disengage the projection and coupled with opening of the door or cover to separate the projection and the blocking member, results in the blocking member blocking the arm. Reclosure of the door or cover results in the blocking member being held out of the path of the arm which automatically re-engages the projection. The arm and the blocking member may be on the wall or enclosure and the projection may be on the door or cover. The latching system may include two or more projections, blocking members and arms, and the latter may be commonly movable.Type: GrantFiled: April 8, 1982Date of Patent: December 25, 1984Assignee: S&C Electric CompanyInventors: Emmett R. Beebe, Edmund S. Dizon, Arvydas J. Kalvaitis

Mounting for an article which permits movement thereof between inaccessible and accessible positions
Patent number: 4463227Abstract: A mounting for an article, such as a high-voltage fuse. The article may be located inaccessibly behind a wall or accessibly in front of the wall. The wall may form a part of an enclosure and contains an opening. The article is affixed to one surface of a panel. The panel is attached to the wall so that it may be simultaneously moved and translated (or pivoted) end-for-end (or side-for-side) relative to the opening to selectively move the article between its two locations. The panel covers or blocks the opening in both locations of the article. The panel may be attached to the wall by rollers mounted at or near one end of the panel and by links pivotally connected between the wall and the panel. The rollers are guided to move generally along or coplanarly with the opening by channels on the wall adjacent to the opening. In this way, substantially all of the movement and translation of the panel may occur in front of the wall.Type: GrantFiled: February 5, 1982Date of Patent: July 31, 1984Assignee: S&C Electric CompanyInventors: Edmund S. Dizon, Joseph P. Moninski, Jr. -
Patent number: 4405844Abstract: A door interlock for electrical apparatus, which may include a switch, within an enclosure, permits the door of the enclosure to be opened only if the electrical apparatus is in a predetermined condition, such as switch-closed. Once the switch has been opened, the door may be opened. The interlock prevents the switch from being reclosed as long as the door is open. A latch holds the door closed if the switch is closed, if the door is locked closed by a door lock, or if both conditions obtain. If the switch is opened while the door is locked closed by the door lock, the latch continues to latch the door closed. If the door lock is unlocked while the switch remains closed, the door latch likewise latches the door closed.Type: GrantFiled: April 1, 1982Date of Patent: September 20, 1983Assignee: S&C Electric CompanyInventors: Edmund S. Dizon, Joseph P. Moninski, Jr.
