    Abstract: A process for manufacturing a dry-to-touch coating having corrosion resistance and torque is provided. The process comprises the steps of adding PTFE to an oil, with the oil containing a amine soap, thoroughly mixing the PTFE into the oil, forming a homogenous dispersion of the PTFE in the oil, mixing a resin forming paint component, adding water to the mixed paint component, mixing the resin forming paint component and water with the oil, and adjusting the pH. The resin forming paint component comprises in the range of 40% to 70% of the coating, the water comprises in the range of 5% to 10% of the coating, and the oil and PTFE blend comprises in the range of 10% to 30% of the coating. Additionally, the PTFE when added to the oil preferably comprises in the range of 10% to 30% by weight. The process further involves the exposure of the resin, water, and oil mixture to a temperature of between 175.degree. to 250.degree. F. until it is dry-to-touch.

    Abstract: An immersion bath composition and a method for applying a heavy, non-powdery coating of iron phosphate on a ferrous substance which is characterized by the addition of an effective amount of gluconic acid to a solution containing phosphoric acid, a soda ash, a chlorate or organic accelerator and water. Using conventional phosphating bath parameters, immersion of a ferrous substrate into the bath produces a heavy, strongly adherent, iron phosphate coating which is non-powdery or dust free and highly satisfactory for paint pre-treatment of the substrate surface.

    Abstract: A coating composition and method of applying the coating to metal surfaces to improve corrosion resistance and substantially reduce coated parts from sticking to one another during the curing step is disclosed wherein a temporary dispersion of a di-phase mixture containing a resin film forming component and a soap film forming component are applied in a single coating step to a metal part. Upon curing the coated part, two distinct layers are formed wherein the resin film is adhered to the surface of the part and the soap film forming component is deposited uniformly over the resin film. During the curing step, the carrier agent portion of the soap film forming component is essentially volatized leaving only an upper layer of a soap film. The soap film is dry to the touch and forms an additional corrosion resistant barrier in cooperation with the underlying resin film.

    Abstract: A coating composition for application to a metal part, which improves corrosion resistance and significantly reduces the co-efficient of friction of the surface of the part and a one coating step method for applying the coating to form two distinct layers on the coated part. The composition includes an oil phase in which polytetrafluoroethelene particles are suspended mixed with a resin film forming paint composition. Upon applying the coating to the part and curing of the resin film, the oil phase separates and forms a overlayer of oil having the polytetrafluoroethelene particles uniformly distributed in the oil layer.

    Abstract: A new method and formulation for treating metal parts for corrosion resistance is disclosed wherein both a paint coat and an oil coating formulation are simultaneously applied in a single step to the parts after the parts have been conventionally phosphated. The novel formulation disclosed is a di-phase composition wherein a distinct paint phase and an oil phase are present. The formulation is applied to the parts only when the two phases have been intimately dispersed to form a temporary suspension. Upon drying, the treated part is provided with a paint undercoat covered by an oil coating and exhibits significantly improved corrosion resistance as measured by standard salt spray corrosion tests.

During this immersion electro-conductive contact is effected between the substrate and zinc or zinc alloy. A smooth, pore-free, pure tin coat is deposited on the substrate during the time the substrate is in electro-conductive contact with the zinc or zinc alloy.

    Abstract: An immersion tin plating bath composition permits high speed plating of tin over zinc and zinc alloy coated steel. The bath consists of stannous ion, a mineral acid, a surfactant consisting of nonylphenoxypoly(ethyleneoxy)ethanol and Guar gum resin as a bodying agent. The combination of the surfactant and bodying agent makes it possible to obtain an adherent tin coating of minimum porosity and controlled, uniform thickness on a continuous basis by roll coating application.
