  • Patent number: 6354220
Abstract: An underwater explosive device, comprising a first container containing an explosive suitable for underwater use, and a second container surrounding the first container and containing oxygen gas under a pressure sufficient to enhance the underwater explosive reaction of the explosive.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 11, 2000
Date of Patent: March 12, 2002
    Assignee: Atlantic Research Corporation
Inventors: Kenneth J Graham, Edna M. Williams
  • Patent number: 6126763
Abstract: A high-performance minimum smoke propellant composition comprising an oxidizer and a lead salt which reduces the amount of smoke produced and enables the composition to sustain combustion at low pressure. The propellant is useful for various purposes, such as propelling man-rated, shoulder-launched rockets.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 1, 1998
Date of Patent: October 3, 2000
    Assignee: Atlantic Research Corporation
Inventors: Edna M. Williams, Mark Friedlander
  • Patent number: 6066213
Abstract: A high-performance minimum smoke propellant composition comprising a high energy plasticizer blend and a lead salt which reduces the amount of smoke produced and enables the composition to sustain combustion at low pressure. The propellant is useful for various purposes, such as propelling man-rated, shoulder-launched rockets.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 18, 1998
Date of Patent: May 23, 2000
    Assignee: Atlantic Research Corporation
Inventors: Edna M. Williams, Mark Friedlander
  • Patent number: 6045726
Abstract: A fire suppressant composition is provided which exhibits a low pressure and low flame temperature. The composition comprises ammonium nitrate and a guanidine salt or derivative which produces greater than 3 moles of inert gas per 100 grams of composition and alkali metal or alkaline earth salts for flame suppression. The composition may also include iron or iron oxide.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 2, 1998
Date of Patent: April 4, 2000
    Assignee: Atlantic Research Corporation
Inventors: Edna M. Williams, Brian K. Wheatley, Jamie B. Neidert, Robert D. Lynch, James D. Martin
  • Patent number: 6024810
Abstract: Castable propellant formulations are provided including reduced toxicity ballistic modifiers that do not adversely increase the sensitivity of the propellant to shock detonation. Failure to adequately control the propellant burn rate often results in unacceptable performance of the propellant. Carbon can act as an effective ballistic, but not to the extent of metal compounds. It has been found that pasting a ballistic modifier, including ballistic modifiers containing lead, in an inert polymer modifies the burn rate of propellants while allowing the use of a reduced amount of modifier to achieve the same desired burn rate modification as the prior art, and therefore creating reduced shortcomings associated with the ballistic modifiers.
