  • Patent number: 10422298
Abstract: A cylinder liner for insertion into an aluminum internal-combustion engine block may include a cylindrical body of cast iron having a circumferential external surface. The cylinder liner may also have a coating deposited on and surrounding the external surface. The external surface may have a specific roughness, and the coating may include at least 98% by volume of pure nickel, and a remainder composed of impurities.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 8, 2015
Date of Patent: September 24, 2019
Assignees: Mahle Metal Leve S/A, Mahle International GmbH
Inventors: Edney Deschauer Rejowski, Rafael B. Rabello
  • Patent number: 10294885
Abstract: A cylinder liner for an internal combustion engine may include a hollow cylindrical body. The body may include an internal surface having a longitudinal/axial length. The internal surface may be divided into at least two portions along the longitudinal/axial length. The at least two portions may respectively include a specific value of roughness and a predefined length.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: May 21, 2019
Assignees: Mahle Metal Leve S/A, Mahle International GmbH
Inventors: Rafael Bettini Rabello, Edney Deschauer Rejowski
  • Patent number: 10294890
Abstract: A sliding combination for use in an internal combustion engine may include at least one cylinder liner defining an internal sliding surface and a ring having an external lateral sliding surface. The external sliding surface of the ring may slide in relation to the internal sliding surface of the liner. The external sliding surface of the ring may include a first coating of a physical vapor deposited metal nitride in sliding contact with a second coating of a diamond-like carbon (DLC) material disposed on the internal sliding surface of the liner.

  • Publication number: 20160319767
Abstract: A cylinder liner of an internal combustion engine may include a substantially circular internal wall and an external wall. The external wall may have at least one planar face and at least one substantially circular face disposed concentric with the internal wall. The at least one circular face may have a rough surface defining a distance between peaks and valleys of 0.2 to 2.5 mm.

  • Publication number: 20160305014
Abstract: A process for coating a cylinder or a liner of an internal combustion engine may involve a plasma assisted chemical vapour deposition (PACVD) technique. The process may include placing a component to be coated in a PACVD system; forming a negative pressure within the system in an inert atmosphere including argon, hydrogen, or a mixture thereof; activating a surface of the component at a bias voltage of 300 to 550 Vbias; performing an ionization of the component at a bias voltage of 800 to 1200 Vbias; depositing an adhesive layer having a precursor element on the surface of the component; depositing a transition layer having a gradient content of increasing amorphous carbon and decreasing precursor element; and depositing an upper layer composed of an amorphous carbon with the precursor element.
