  • Patent number: 4506421
Abstract: In a controlled deflection roll comprising a rotating shell forming the working roll periphery and a stationary beam extending lengthwise through the shell and spaced all around from the inner periphery of the shell, the space between the beam and the inner periphery of the shell, in the neighborhood of the operative plane, is divided into chambers by longitudinal seals and a number of transverse seals, the chambers have separate feed lines and each pair of adjacent chambers has a common transverse seal between them. Neighboring chambers are connected by a duct and non-return valves so that the transverse seal is always acted upon by the pressure of the higher-pressure chamber and pressed against the inner periphery of the shell. The chambers can be formed on the side of the beam facing the nip and also on the side remote from the nip and can also be individually filled with pressure fluid at different temperatures.

  • Patent number: 4410380
Abstract: In a method of continuously manufacturing sheets of material such as wood chip board in which a bed of material is fed from one conveyor belt to another conveyor bed which forms part of a continuous press, in order to avoid problems caused by the discontinuity at the gaps between the two belts, a web of paper is fed onto the conveyor belt and caused to travel with the conveyor belts, the bed of material then disposed on the paper, permitting the paper to bridge the gap between the conveyor belts without disturbance of the bed of material. The paper, which is then pressed and intimately bonded to the bed of material when making the sheet of material, is subsequently ground off.

  • Patent number: 4327468
Abstract: A controlled deflection roll of the type having a rotative shell through which a non-rotative shaft extends axially so as to form a radial space between the shaft and the shell's inside and self-aligning end bearings journaling the shell to the shaft, and the shell's deflection controlled by internal pressure between the bearings in that space, has an arrangement for applying radial forces between the shell and the shaft on the axial outsides of the bearings so that the shell's deflection throughout its length can be more precisely controlled.

  • Patent number: 4288208
Abstract: In a belt arrangement including two endless belts revolving about deflection cylinders with their axis parallel to each other, for transporting loose, finely divided material, the upper sections of which belts are in approximately the same plane, the belts being driven in the same transport direction and following each other immediately in the transport direction and thus forming an upper wedge space between the two belts; an auxiliary device for transferring the material from one belt to the next one is obtained by means of a liquid which is of higher specific gravity than the material to be transported and does not wet the latter disposed in the upper wedge between the last deflection cylinder of the one belt and the first deflection cylinder of the following belt with seals sealing said wedge at the bottom and sides to retain the liquid.

  • Patent number: 4285107
Abstract: In order to obtain better heat transfer in a coolable roller with an inner supporting cylinder which consists of metal, and on which a tubular roller jacket is firmly disposed, the jacket consisting of plastic and having slots on its inner circumference, the inner cylinder is constructed so that it can be cooled from the inside and a pressure resistant heat conductor which is in heat conducting contact with the walls of the slots is disposed in the slots.

  • Patent number: 4275683
Abstract: In apparatus for applying foam to a moving web comprising a foam generator and a foam box which is coupled to the foam generator, the foam box arranged transversely to the web, extending over its width, and having on its underside an opening which extends over the width of the web and under which a rotatable cylinder is arranged which extends over the width of the web, the cylinder being sealed against the foam box except for an exit for the foam, the cylinder in its rotation, carrying foam from the foam box along at its surface and depositing it on the web passing underneath the cylinder, is a wall element is disposed on the side of the cylinder which is descending during revolution, the wall element, together with the cylinder, forming a canal which is tapered in the circumferential direction of the cylinder with the canal ending in the region between the height of the axis of the cylinder and one half the height of the cylinder above, and a wiper inclined downwardly toward the web rests against the cylinde

  • Patent number: 4053276
Abstract: A press for exerting a pressure over an area in a longitudinal section of a sheet, particularly a press for producing wood chip board and similar materials, having two opposed pressure plates between which the sheet is passed, and which are braced against respective support structures provided on the outside, wherein the pressure is transmitted by a pressure medium to at least one pressure plate from the support structure associated with it through several pressure elements arranged at points lined up across the sheet in such a manner that a variable pressure profile across the sheet results.

  • Patent number: 3965769
Abstract: A continuous press has two rotatively driven endless conveyor belts forming opposed, substantially linear spans defining a pressing zone, press platens applying pressure through these traveling spans to work carried therebetween, and anti-friction means being interposed between the platens and the spans. Such a press is improved in that the anti-friction means is formed by a multiplicity of endless loops of rotatively unpowered roller chains forming a bed interposed between the platens and the belt spans, the roller chain spans extending longitudinally with respect to the belt spans and being transversely packed together, but each chain being individually free to travel independently with respect to the others and to the belt span. The chains are formed so as to not have a continuous link gap so that the overall path is free from transverse interspacing.

  • Patent number: 3945131
Abstract: Apparatus for drying a traveling web which is permeable to air, has a rotating foraminous drum on which the web is wrapped and screw-type propellers mounted in each end of the drum, the diameters of the propellers closely approaching the inside diameters of the drum. Rotation of the propellers effects suction in the drum. Provision is made for heating air to be sucked through the web into the drum, and optionally for recirculating more or less of the air flowing from the ends of the drum back to the drum's periphery.
