  • Patent number: 4991423
Abstract: A method of gas-chromatographic analysis of mixtures involves the use of a chromatograph column comprising a capillary tube which continuously passes a carrier-gas flow saturated with solvent vapors at a temperature below the chromatograph column temperature maintained above the solvent vapor condensation point and below the solvent boiling point, a sample of a mixture to be analyzed being periodically supplied to the column after attaining the equality between the quantity of solvent vapors supplied to the column and the quantity of vapors removed therefrom. To this end, the device for accomplishing the proposed method comprises a saturator partially filled with liquid solvent and placed between a carrier-gas source and means for supplying samples of an analyzed mixture of the column, the saturator being enclosed in a thermostat.

  • Patent number: 4766760
Abstract: A method of chromatographic analysis of mixture of liquid substances in which a sample of the substances is injected to an inlet portion of a chromatographic column wherethrough a flow of carrier gas is conveyed entraining vapors of the substances from the column to a detector. According to one feature of the invention, the flow of carrier gas is divided into two parts; one part of the flow being conveyed at the point of sample injection and during its separation through the column in a direction from the inlet to the outlet, whereas in the detector this part of the flow of carrier gas is conveyed through the column in a direction from the outlet to the inlet. The second part of the flow of carrier gas is continuously passed through the detector. A gas chromatograph comprises an injector having a passage for introducing the sample connected to a pipe for feeding a carrier gas, a chromatographic column, a detector, and a means for sealing this passage.

  • Patent number: 4414857
Abstract: Disclosed is a method and apparatus for injecting samples into the evaporator of a gas chromatograph effected by a sample carrier, whereafter the thus formed vapors are transferred into the flow of a carrier gas. According to one aspect of the invention, the evaporator of the gas chromatograph is sealed only for a period of the sample introduction subsequent to the physical communication of the evaporator with the sample carrier. Vapors of the substance under analysis are conveyed from the evaporator into the chromatographic column via a flow constrictor of constant cross-sectional diameter.According to another aspect of the invention the flow constrictor of constant cross-section is positioned essentially after the passageway communicating the sample carrier with the evaporator but prior to the passageway for evacuating the vapors from the evaporator to the chromatographic column.
