Patent number: 9428943Abstract: A modular latch for an automotive vehicle is provided. It includes a latch core (a housing and a ratchet and pawl rotatably mounted to the housing), a mounting plate that secures the latch core to the vehicle. The latch cure can use any of a plurality of different mounting plates for a lift gate latch, a decklid latch, and a sliding door latch; A latch module is mounted to the latch core to provide different functional including a manual release latch module, a power release latch module, a power lock and unlock latch module, and a power cinching and release latch module. The latch cure may fit a more or less universal envelope. The latch may employ one or more status sensors. Those status sensors may sense striker position, and may not necessarily include any sensors mounted to monitor ratchet position. The latch may include a layered latch core in which one or more sensor members move in different planes from the pawl and ratchet.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 2008Date of Patent: August 30, 2016Assignee: Magna Closures Inc.Inventors: Scott J. R. Mitchell, Jagdeep Playia, Chuan Liang, Dani Androas, Dikran Ghorghorian, Ilya Neyman, Ioan D. Ilea, John G. Zeabari, Eduard Vasilescu

Patent number: 7866729Abstract: An actuating device is provided for moving a closure panel between an open position spaced apart from a vehicle body and a closed position abutting the vehicle body to close an access opening thereof. The actuating device includes a telescopic arm having a first member coupled to one of the closure panel and the vehicle body and a second member coupled to the other of the closure panel and the vehicle body. The first and second members are slidable relative to one another to move the actuating device between a retracted position corresponding with the closed position and an extended position corresponding with the open position. A screw is rotatable relative to the first member. The screw includes a cavity formed therewithin. A nut is secured to the second member and threadingly engages the screw such that rotation of the screw moves the second member towards and away from the first member to move the actuating device between the respective retracted and extended positions.Type: GrantFiled: December 3, 2009Date of Patent: January 11, 2011Assignee: Magna Closures Inc.Inventors: Alex Porat, Salvatore Vitale, Stephen A. G. Mitchell, Eduard Vasilescu, Peter Lance Oxley, Gordon Andrew Paton, Jason David Niskanen, Andrew R. Daniels, Dragan Mrkovic
