  • Patent number: 5007891
Abstract: A print copy folding device arrangement including a folding blade drum, a first folding roller, a second folding roller and a conveyor belt arrangement. The folding rollers include a first peripheral area segment having a surface extending about a first circumferential portion of said first roller, spaced from a central rotational axis a distance r.sub.1 and a second peripheral area segment including a recessed peripheral surface, the recessed peripheral surface being spaced from the central rotational axis a distance r2 wherein r.sub.1 >r.sub.2 and having residual peripheral surfaces disposed at each side of the recess peripheral surface. The residual peripheral surfaces are spaced from the central rotational axis the distance r.sub.1. A third peripheral area segment is provided extending about a third circumferential portion of rollers. The third peripheral area is provided with a recessed surface spaced from the central rotational axis the distance r.sub.2.

  • Patent number: 4600186
Abstract: The impact speed of a printed product which is delivered at a rapid rate into a pocket of a rotatable flywheel is reduced by engaging the printed product as it is propelled into the flywheel pocket adjacent its trailing edge. The invention includes a fly delivery wheel which may comprise a plurality of individual flywheel elements each having a plurality of flywheel pockets distributed around its circumference. The flywheel pockets open radially and as the openings of each pocket are moved around during the rotation of the flywheel the printed product is delivered into the opening and it moves at high impact speed into the pocket space. A cam is rotatably mounted adjacent the flywheel and adjacent a ring which is carried on a rotatable shaft and the printed products are delivered between the rotatable cam plate and the ring and into the pocket. The cam plate advantageously includes one or more cams having tips with elastic portions which move during rotation of the cam into close contact with the rings.

  • Patent number: 4565359
Abstract: To be able to produce an accurate second lengthwise fold on printed copies delivered by a web-fed rotary printing press, a second group of folding cylinders is provided downstream of a first group of folding cylinders, with the axes of all cylinders of both groups being parallel to each other. A conveying mechanism is provided between the two cylinder groups, which is equipped with turning devices by which the printed copies transferred from the first cylinder group by means of strip lines are nipped and turned through 90.degree.. Further strip lines are provided for transferring the turned copies to the second group line of folding cylinders.

  • Patent number: 4205837
Abstract: Apparatus for forming a succession of mutually overlapping products, like folded printed products: a vane wheel having a plurality of axially spaced apart vane discs; a respective chain extending between two neighboring discs; a set of item grippers along each chain; each chain passes between a sprocket located between the discs and a sprocket spaced away therefrom; the sprocket between two discs is eccentric of the discs and is supported on an arm which pivots with respect to the axis of the discs; each sprocket includes cams for opening each gripper as the gripper moves past, whereby each gripper grips a printed item as it leaves the vane wheel, carries the respective printed item to a transport so that the printed items are overlapped on the transport, and then releases the printed item.

  • Patent number: 4090701
Abstract: A cutting device for a folding apparatus of a rotary printing machine: a folding cylinder which delivers printed product to folding rollers, a cutting cylinder having means to cut the printed product and means to press the printed product against the folding cylinder until the time for release of the printed product; means for moving the axis of the cutting cylinder around the axis of the folding cylinder thereby to adjust the release point of the means that presses the product against the folding cylinder.

  • Patent number: 4036487
Abstract: Apparatus for forming in a sheet a fold extending transversely of the direction of sheet travel therethrough is provided with a triad of cylinders rotating about parallel axes. The sheets to be folded are first engaged about the periphery of a first of said triad of cylinders with their trailing and leading edges engaged by releasable grippers. A folding blade located between said grippers on said first cylinder causes a portion of the sheet intermediate the leading and trailing end thereof to be engaged by a folding flap provided on a second of said triad of cylinders. The folding flap engages the sheet at an intermediate point thereon and draws the sheet off said first cylinder while the sheet ends are positively held in a controlled manner. The third of said triad of cylinders cooperates by engaging the leading end of said sheet as said sheet is drawn off said first cylinder by the second cylinder.
