  • Publication number: 20040027385
Abstract: An information input device using an electromagnetic near field to input information for an information equipment which a user is carrying. In a keyboard 12, a keycode (an output from a processor 2) is frequency modulated (FSK) by a modulator 5, only necessary carrier component passes through a filter 6, and then supplied to conductive keytops 4 via a buffer amplifier 7. The supplied signal is received at a preamplifier 10 installed in user's wearable equipment 9 using a surface of a human body and an electromagnetic near field, and then supplied to a wearable computer 11 of the wearable equipment 9 after demodulation.

  • Publication number: 20040024884
Abstract: The present invention is an information processing apparatus which obtains identification information of an electronic device and makes communication with the electronic device via a network based on the identification information. When a portable telephone (11) is placed on an input display section (2) of a personal computer (1), a reader/writer built in the personal computer (1) reads a telephone number of the portable telephone (11) stored in an RF tag built in the portable telephone (11). Based on the telephone number, a telephone line is connected between the portable telephone (11) and the personal computer (1). Data is interchanged between the portable telephone (11) and the personal computer (1) via the telephone line.

  • Patent number: 6624746
Abstract: A pager and paging system are adapted to provide music enthusiasts with information regarding musical events which is otherwise generally available. A subscriber of the musical information service provides the service provider with an interest profile detailing the subscriber's musical interests. The service provider compiles information regarding musical events, compares the compiled information to the profile, and transmits information matching the profile to the subscriber's pager. In a two-way paging system, the information may not be transmitted until a request is sent to the system. The system may also determine the pager's general location and provide information relevant to that locale.

  • Publication number: 20030109959
Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus that controls the actions of a pet robot. The apparatus comprises a portable terminal (3) having an electrode that may contact a user (2). When the user touches the electrode provided on the head of the robot (1), the user ID stored in the memory section of the portable terminal (3) is transmitted to the robot (1) through the user (2). The robot (1) retrieves the information associated with the user ID it has received, thereby identifying the user (2). The robot (1) may determine that the user (2) touched it in the past. In this case, the robot (1) performs an action in accordance with the information about what the user (2) did to it in the past.

  • Patent number: 6570582
Abstract: Multiple images are displayed on a screen of a computer system to reflect a temporal relationship among them. Based on date and time when an image is obtained in relation to other displayed images, its size is set accordingly. Namely, the more recent the image, the larger its size on the screen. In addition, the larger the size of the image, the more processing operations, including graphical or text processing functions, are available to a user to be performed on that image.

  • Patent number: 6554434
Abstract: An interactive projection system for displaying an image on a planar surface includes a base, a projector, a convex mirror, and at least one support. The base is disposed on the planer surface. The projector is housed in the base. The projector has an image projecting portion that projects an image along a projection path away from the projector. The at least one support is connected to the base and supports the convex mirror at a position along the projection path so as to face the image projecting portion of the projector and the planar surface.

  • Patent number: 6545588
Abstract: A pager allows the input and transmission of a virtual unlimited range of messages. The pager comprises a character display control knob which controls the sequential display of alphabetic and numeric characters on a display. By rotating the knob, the displayed character advances or retreats through the appropriate alphabetic or numeric sequence. When the character is displayed that the pager user wishes to include in a message to be transmitted, the pager user presses a selection key. The process is repeated until the message is completed. The pager may then transmit the message to a paging system by radio transmission to a base station or by emitting a series of sounds in which the message is encoded. In the case of emitted sounds, the sounds are conveyed along an open phone line to the paging system where they are decoded.

  • Patent number: 6425129
Abstract: Channel information is displayed for a user in improved fashion by adjusting the amount of information according to the rate with which the user previews channels. For example, at a first rate of preview, the channel number, channel logo, program name and video could be displayed for each previewed channel, while at a faster rate, the channel number and logo could be displayed, and at a still faster rate the channel number alone could be displayed for each previewed channel. The rate of preview can be dictated by remote control signals, such as those produced by a remote control jog dial. The user can rotate the jog dial to preview channels at various rates and receive corresponding amounts of information for each previewed channel dependent upon the rate that the channels are previewed.

  • Patent number: 6384869
Abstract: A method and structure is capable of scanning through available programs on a display screen and selectively displaying the most recently scanned programs in a spiral formation on the display screen. The spiral formation conveys visual information to the viewer about when the programs were scanned by the arrangement and sizing of a number of positions of the spiral formation. Provided with the visual information of the recently scanned programs in the spiral formation, the viewer can readily determine which programs were recently scanned and when they were scanned.

  • Patent number: 6320599
Abstract: As various objects, images, etc. are selectively enlarged or reduced in size on a screen using a zooming operation, at least three marks are displayed to provide a visual indication of the limits for zoom-in and zoom-out operations. The first and second marks indicate limits for enlarging and decreasing a picture, respectively, while the third mark indicates a position of the current screen display with respect to the displayed limits for the zoom-in and zoom-out operations.

  • Patent number: 6281940
Abstract: Information corresponding to previewed channels is displayed using a sequential arrangement having a main channel location and several remaining channel locations. A currently previewed channel resides in the main channel location. The channels move along the sequential arrangement and into the main channel location for previewing. An arc shaped arrangement having the main channel location at an intermediate point allows channels to progress from one side of the arc, then into the main channel location for previewing, then to the other side of the arc. A jog dial can be rotated to cause the previewed channels to rotate along the arc. Thus, the user can cycle through available channels or a subset of channels by merely holding the jog dial in a given position.

  • Patent number: 6133962
Abstract: An improved electronic programming guide (EPG) having time blocks capable of selectively expanding and contracting in size, according to a mode of the EPG, in order to facilitate fast and efficient time navigation through available programming by a viewer of multiple channel broadcast system. In one implementation, when a navigation element remains stationary over a time block for a period of time, a multiple program display mode is initiated, and the time block increases in size relative to other displayed time blocks. Responsive to the navigation element moving outside the time block, a navigation mode is initiated, wherein the time block as well as other displayed time blocks become equal in size, and display only the channel information for a particular channel segment.

  • Patent number: 6100889
Abstract: Multiple items forming a menu are displayed on a screen in a computer system. As the user refers to a menu item via an input device, that particular item is displayed in increased size. As soon as the user moves to another menu item, this newly referenced item becomes larger than the other menu items, while the previously referenced item is reduced to its original size. If the user-referenced item has a sub-menu associated with it, then the size of that sub-menu increases--while the menu size is decreased--as the user moves from the menu to the sub-menu.

  • Patent number: 6097387
Abstract: A graphical universe that is larger than a display screen is displayed on a screen using a panning operation. To view portions of the graphical universe, a cursor positioned on the display screen using an input device is utilized to fix a reference location for the panning operation. By moving the cursor on the display screen, a line between the cursor and the reference location is provided. The direction of the line indicates direction of the panning operation, while the length of the line determines speed of the panning operation.
