  • Patent number: 4622213
Abstract: A process for absorbing sulfur dioxide from a gas stream comprising contacting said gas stream with a slurry of pretreated shale in an aqueous medium wherein the shale acts catalytically to convert the sulfite radical to the sulfate radical.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 9, 1985
Date of Patent: November 11, 1986
    Assignee: UOP Inc.
Inventors: Peter Urban, Edward A. Ginger
  • Patent number: 4268488
Abstract: A process for the reductive removal of a nitrogen oxide from a gaseous stream, particularly a stream containing oxygen, water, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxide and nitrogen, by contacting the stream with ammonia in the presence of a mixture of two catalysts. The first catalyst comprises copper or a copper compound, preferably copper sulfate supported on a porous carrier material. The second catalyst is a combination of metals or compounds thereof, preferably sulfates of vanadium and iron or tungsten and iron, also dispersed on a porous carrier material.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 10, 1979
Date of Patent: May 19, 1981
    Assignee: UOP Inc.
    Inventor: Edward A. Ginger
  • Patent number: 4258020
Abstract: An improved process for the simultaneous separation of sulfur and nitrogen oxides from a gaseous mixture containing said oxides and oxygen is disclosed. The gaseous mixture and ammonia are contacted with a solid sulfur oxides acceptor comprising copper, copper oxide, or mixture thereof dispersed on a carrier material, and wherein said solid acceptor is subjected to cyclic regeneration in contact with a reducing gas, is disclosed. The solid acceptor further contains a rare earth metal, metal oxide or mixture thereof which functions as a sulfur oxides acceptance regeneration promoter as well as a nitrogen oxides conversion catalyst.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 16, 1979
Date of Patent: March 24, 1981
    Assignee: UOP Inc.
    Inventor: Edward A. Ginger
  • Patent number: 4257918
Abstract: A physical mixture of a first and second catalyst. The first catalyst comprises copper or a copper compound, preferably copper sulfate supported on a porous carrier material. The second catalyst is a combination of metals or compounds thereof, preferably sulfates of vanadium and iron or tungsten and iron, also dispersed on a porous carrier material.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 7, 1980
Date of Patent: March 24, 1981
    Assignee: UOP Inc.
    Inventor: Edward Ginger
  • Patent number: 4241033
Abstract: An improved process for the separation of sulfur oxides from a gaseous mixture containing sulfur oxides and oxygen is disclosed. The gaseous mixture is contacted with a solid sulfur oxide acceptor comprising copper, copper oxide, or a mixture thereof dispersed on a carrier material in combination with a platinum group metal component and a component selected from the group consisting of rhenium, germanium and tin.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 1, 1979
Date of Patent: December 23, 1980
    Assignee: UOP Inc.
Inventors: Edward A. Ginger, Armand J. deRosset
  • Patent number: 4192855
Abstract: An improved process for the simultaneous separation of sulfur and nitrogen oxides from a gaseous mixture containing said oxides and oxygen is disclosed. The gaseous mixture and ammonia are contacted with a solid sulfur oxides acceptor comprising copper, copper oxide, or mixture thereof dispersed on a carrier material in combination with a nitrogen oxides conversion catalyst consisting of a rare earth metal, metal oxide or mixture thereof.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 10, 1978
Date of Patent: March 11, 1980
    Assignee: UOP Inc.
    Inventor: Edward A. Ginger
