  • Publication number: 20140305032
Abstract: A motor fuel providing higher gas mileage comprising gasoline produced from petroleum and from about 1 to 30 wt % of mesitylene. This fuel can advantageously contain conventional additives used in gasoline. The use of mesitylene in gasoline blend yields a fuel blend with a higher research octane number and motor octane number. In addition, an improved jet fuel is provided, having from 1-10 wt % biomass-derived mesitylene added thereto, having improved carbon emission characteristics while maintaining required specifications. Further, an improved bio-fuel is provided, which may function as a replacement for conventional Jet A/JP-8 fuel and has lowered carbon emission specifications, the bio-fuel comprised of 75-90 wt % synthetic parafinnic kerosene (SPK) and 10-25 wt % mesitylene.

  • Publication number: 20140270298
Abstract: An open fitted hearing aid adapter allows a user to quickly transition between an open fitted style hearing aid and a closed fitted style hearing aid. This allows the user to conveniently benefit from the different advantages offered by both styles of hearing aids, according to the user's current needs. The open fitted hearing aid adapter has a custom ear mold, at least one receiving surface channel 19, and a tube securing mechanism. The receiving surface channel 19 is the component in which the open hearing aid component(s) (e.g., tubing, wiring, speaker, and/or microphone) of an open fitted hearing aid is positioned. The open hearing aid component(s) is positioned within the receiving surface channel 19 through a tubing slit, rather than being threaded through the custom ear mold and generally affixed in a permanent manner. The tube securing mechanism acts to hold the open hearing aid component(s) in place.

  • Publication number: 20140242722
Abstract: An article is provided for the detection of a drug in a liquid medium. The article includes a polymer having pores specifically imprinted to provide for capture of a drug in the pores, nanoparticles, and photochromic optical switch molecules. Capture of the drug in the pores of the polymer results in a change in the spatial relation of the nanoparticles in the polymer, causing the photochromic optical switch molecules to undergo a change in energy state which corresponds to a change in spectra of the photochromic optical switch molecules, thereby providing for detection of the drug.

  • Publication number: 20140202163
Abstract: Additive manufacturing techniques may be utilized to construct effusion plates. Such additive manufacturing techniques may include defining a configuration for an effusion plate having one or more internal cooling channels. The manufacturing techniques may further include depositing a powder into a chamber, applying an energy source to the deposited powder, and consolidating the powder into a cross-sectional shape corresponding to the defined configuration. Such methods may be implemented to construct an effusion plate having one or more channels with a curved cross-sectional geometry.

  • Publication number: 20140195183
Abstract: Described herein are a method, system, and computer readable medium for estimating a diffusion potential (such as temperature) of a diffusive property (such as thermal energy, referred to herein as “heat”). The method includes modeling as a circuit a diffusion region having two subregions to which the diffusive property is introduced at different rates and through which the diffusive property linearly diffuses. The nodes of the circuit include a dividing node that divides branches of the circuit that model the two subregions. A circuit potential at one of the nodes of the circuit corresponds to the diffusion potential at a location within the diffusion region. The diffusion potential at the location within the diffusion region is estimated by simulating operating of the circuit and determining the circuit potential at the node of the circuit.
