  • Patent number: 8428899
Abstract: Apparatus for testing a conducted energy weapon includes analyzer to produce characteristic signals representative of characteristics of electrical current pulses delivered by the weapon into a resistive load when the weapon is discharged. Risk estimation device responsive to the characteristic signals produces a risk estimate representative of a risk of injury to a targeted subject due to electrical stimulation, or alternatively representative of a risk of failure to incapacitate the targeted subject. Indicator device responsive to the risk estimate indicates the risk of injury, or alternatively the risk of failure to incapacitate, and warns the user of the apparatus when the risk exceeds a predetermined threshold.

  • Publication number: 20130087146
Abstract: A ventilator includes a compressor, a storage vessel, a valve assembly communicating with the compressor, the storage vessel, and an inhalation line. A controller directs the valve assembly between a storage configuration where ventilation gas is delivered from the compressor into the storage vessel, and a delivery configuration where ventilation gas is delivered from the storage vessel to the inhalation line. The controller is coupled to a pressure sensor for detecting a first pressure within the storage vessel when the valve assembly is directed to the delivery configuration, and detecting subsequent pressure while ventilation gas is delivered from the storage vessel to the inhalation line, the controller determining the volume of ventilation gas delivered to the patient based at least in part on the difference between the first pressure and the subsequent pressure.

  • Publication number: 20130053989
Abstract: A computer implemented method is described. A computer-implemented method provides determining if an extended absence flag has been triggered for a first participant. If the extended absence flag has been triggered, the computer-implemented method automatically performs one or more of a plurality of actions required to continue game play on behalf of the first participant as if the first participant was still actively involved in game play. By automatically conducting play of the first participant as if the first participant was still involved, the computer-implemented method maintains competitiveness as well as the game experience for other participants.

  • Publication number: 20130042616
Abstract: Disclosed herein is an approach that uses a motor protection system to assist in determining power plant metrics. In one aspect, a motor protection system obtains operational data from motor-driven sub-processes operating within a power plant. A controller receives the operational data and determines power plant metrics that may include net power plant output and costs each of the motor-driven sub-processes has on the overall operation of the power plant. In another aspect, the controller may partition the power metrics into one or more user-specified groupings for viewing thereof.

  • Publication number: 20130038072
Abstract: Systems and methods for controlling a gas turbine are disclosed. The gas turbine can include a compressor oversized in airflow capacity and one or variable blade rows to control the airflow into the compressor. The position of the variable blade rows can be controlled according to a nominal variable blade row schedule that is defined to throttle down the variable blade rows to provide nominal flow into the compressor. The positions of the variable blade rows can be adjusted from the nominal positions set forth in the variable blade row schedule pursuant to a request to operate the gas turbine system in either a controlled output mode or in a frequency compensation mode.

  • Publication number: 20120309599
Abstract: The present invention relates to an exercise that can function as a rolling exercise device. It comprises an elongate member that has a first handle assembly secured to its first end and a second handle assembly secured to its second end. The handle assemblies include a base that is rotatably secured to a handle support structure. The handle assemblies also include a handle for gripping. The handle assemblies further function as wheels on either side of the elongate member that allows the exercise device to roll. In addition, the handle assemblies can be removed from the ends of the elongate member and the assemblies can be mutually joined in a second configuration that does not include the elongate member. The second configuration can also be rolled along a surface by a user gripping the handles and applying a force that causes the base of each handle assembly to rotate.

  • Patent number: 8321454
Abstract: A method, apparatus, system, article of manufacture, and data structure provide the ability to perform a sorted map-reduce job on a cluster. A cluster of two or more computers is defined by installing a map-reduce framework onto each computer and formatting the cluster by identifying the cluster computers, establishing communication between them, and enabling the cluster to function as a unit. Data is placed into the cluster where it is distributed so that each computer contains a portion of the data. A first map function is performed where each computer sorts their respective data and creates an abstraction that is a representation of the data. The abstractions are exchanged and merged to create complete abstraction. A second map function searches the complete abstraction to redistribute and exchange the data across the computers in the cluster. A reduce function is performed in parallel to produce a result.

  • Publication number: 20120227959
Abstract: A close-tolerance expandable bow spring centralizer 8 having a first expandable collar 10A coupled to and spaced apart from a second expandable collar 10B through a plurality of bow springs 30 wherein expandable collars 10A, 10B comprise a plurality of slidably coupled links 16 that separate to expand the diameter of the collars 10A, 10B, e.g., upon expansion of an expandable pipe string 80 on which the centralizer 8 is received. Expandable bow spring centralizer 8 may grip the expandable pipe string 80 when in the collapsed configuration to eliminate the need for a stop collar. Additionally or alternatively, a fin 32 may be connected to each bow spring 30, and then connected to one or more adjacent fins 32 upon collapse of the bow springs 30 to form a restraining band 39 that may be ruptured, e.g., upon expansion of the expandable pipe string 80.
