Publication number: 20090044596Abstract: A piston-and-cylinder gas flow calibrator (prover) having piston and cylinder elements with interface surfaces made of glass, quartz, or alumina. The piston and cylinder are made of the same material so as to have the same coefficient of thermal expansion. In one embodiment, the surface of the piston is ground, while the facing surface of the cylinder is unground. Also, disclosed are movement detectors for detecting movement of the piston in the cylinder.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 8, 2008Publication date: February 19, 2009Inventors: Harvey F. Padden, Edward Morrell

Patent number: 6067229Abstract: A device for housing electronic components that produce heat and must be cooled. The device includes a housing having at least one vertical wall that has an interior surface and a corresponding exterior surface. Rows of vains are disposed on the interior surface of the wall. Each row of vains contains a plurality of parallel vains having the same general dimensions. Adjacent rows of vains are not aligned. As a result, the vains on one internal row do not lay in the same line as vains from adjacent internal rows. External vains are disposed on the exterior surface of the wall, opposite the internal vains. The external vains correspond in position and number with the internal vains. Heat absorbed by the internal vains is transferred to the external vains by conduction, wherein the external vains dissipate the absorbed heat to the surrounding environment with an efficiency that is made possible by the configuration of the vains.Type: GrantFiled: May 30, 1997Date of Patent: May 23, 2000Assignee: Lucent Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Charles E. Johnson, Edward A. Morrell

Patent number: 4068314Abstract: A jacket type of garment is provided with a storage or back pack secured to and made part of the garment in such a way that the load of the pack is suspended from a pair of shoulder straps carried within the garment. Upper and lower corners of the storage pack are secured to the straps to distribute load forces from the storage pack to the straps and not to be seams of the jacket, and also to prevent lateral shifting of the lower end of the back pack when it is loaded.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 1976Date of Patent: January 17, 1978Assignee: Champion Products Inc.Inventors: Richard C. Yellen, Edward A. Morrell
