  • Publication number: 20110054855
Abstract: A food safety management tool that utilizes a mathematical model based on differential equations that is generalized for describing the continuous growth-death kinetics of microbial populations in foodstuffs. The method is used to provide a way to control target microorganisms when designing product formulations of minimally processed foodstuffs or when processing foods with high pressures, temperatures, or other lethal agents to achieve effective pasteurization, disinfection, or sterilization of foodstuffs, and includes the use of model parameters to predict food formulations to inhibit the growth of microorganisms and the processing times needed to reduce microbial hazards to levels that ensure consumer safety.

  • Publication number: 20100070910
Abstract: A user interface for a mobile device allows users to interact across applications with information relevant to known people, organizations, or locations, referred to herein as “recognized entities.” Every type of recognized entity has associated action options that populate a node menu for that type. The node menu options are selectable, for example, through a touchscreen interface, to rapidly execute the associated action. In another embodiment, a plurality of data windows, referred to as “spinners,” are viewed simultaneously on one display. Each spinner is a view of one or more data objects provided that are distinguished from one another by data type, context, parsing or sorting algorithms, or user interaction with this data. The spinners respond to user actions, to new information from the server, or external events by automatically visibly scrolling the data displayed in the spinner windows.

  • Publication number: 20080319788
Abstract: A method for facilitating an easy and practical detailed analysis of Medicare Part D plans that saves the user time in calculating what a single plan costs by analyzing and presenting data regarding actual and estimated drug costs under various healthcare plans and features. A list of prescription drugs likely to be used in the coming year is prepared, including dosage and frequency of use on a personalized template. Information is added to the forms generated from the template, including plan name, prices for initial coverage, and yearly fee and deductible, for each plan. The spreadsheets are analyzed to compare plans. The effect on yearly cost of options such as home delivery, non-formulary drug suppliers domestic and foreign, which local drugstores, and other health decisions may be taken into consideration. Experts may then be consulted on ways to save money without losing any health benefits.

  • Publication number: 20070198003
Abstract: A beam of radiation can be provided to treat a dermatological condition in a target region of skin. The beam of radiation can have a wavelength between about 700 nm and about 800 nm, a fluence greater than about 50 J/cm2, and a pulse duration between about 10 msec and about 300 msec. The beam of radiation is delivered to the target region of skin to affect (i) at least one pigmentary abnormality disposed in an epidermal region of the target region and (ii) at least one vascular abnormality disposed in a dermal region of the target region. A surface of the epidermal region of the target region of skin can be cooled to prevent substantial unwanted injury to at least a portion of the epidermal region.

  • Publication number: 20060283736
Abstract: An improved long box package for prerecorded media includes an elongated substantially rectangular box enclosure having a front wall, a rear wall, and a pair of first and second side walls. The box enclosure further includes an open top end, a bottom end adapted to be closed, and an interior shelf disposed between the top end and the bottom end for supporting the bottom end of a media case to be carried by the package. An opening is formed in the front wall that is contiguous with the open top end and which extends toward the shelf. In combination, the open top end and the contiguous front wall opening define an open channel for receiving the media case. The open channel facilitates rapid placement of the media case in the package by virtue of the media case not being restricted to insertion through the top end only.

  • Patent number: 7031700
Abstract: A method and system for location-based group conference initiation is provided. A server will receive a request from a user to initiate a media conference, and the server will then initiate a conference with members of a group who are located in a designated location. The request may indicate a group of users who are candidates to be invited to the conference, and the location at issue. Given the request, the server will determine which of the candidate users are currently located within the zone at issue. And the server will then invite each of those candidate users to participate in the conference.

  • Publication number: 20060072616
Abstract: A Fibre Channel switch element in a Fibre Channel network is provided. The Fibre Channel switch element includes a port that replaces a logical unit number (“LUN”) field value in a FCP_CMND frame. The port includes a LUN Mapping cache for replacing the LUN field value in a FCP_CMND frame. The LUN Mapping cache may also generate a value that is added to or subtracted from the LUN field value in the FCP_CMND frame. A control bit is used to activate LUN Mapping cache for mapping LUN values.

  • Publication number: 20050256515
Abstract: A method for treating wrinkles in skin involves the use of a beam of pulsed, scanned or gated continuous wave laser or incoherent radiation. The method comprises generating a beam of radiation, directing the beam of radiation to a targeted dermal region between 100 microns and 1.2 millimeters below a wrinkle in the skin, and thermally injuring collagen in the targeted dermal region. The beam of radiation has a wavelength of between 1.3 and 1.8 microns. The method may include cooling an area of the skin above the targeted dermal region while partially denaturing the collagen in the targeted dermal region. The method may also include cooling an area of the skin above the targeted dermal region prior to thermally injuring collagen in the targeted dermal region.
