  • Patent number: 10346623
Abstract: A computing resource service provider may operate one or more services configured to provide customers with access to computing resources. Attackers may attempt to exfiltrate customer data from the one or more services. In order to prevent attackers from obtaining customer data the one or more services may provide specious data in response to an attack. The attack may be detected based at least in part on a set of triggers that indicate a likelihood of attack. The specious data may be configured to appear to the attacker as authentic customer data and/or that the attack is successful. Additionally, the specious data may be detectable by the one or more service, enabling the one or more service to collect additional data corresponding to the attack and/or attacker.

  • Patent number: 10037257
Abstract: Provided are methods and peripheral devices for examining local hardware and configuring a location-aware peripheral device accordingly. In some implementations, a peripheral device may be configured to examine, using a bus interface, another device connected to the bus. Examining may include determining characteristics of the other device. In some implementations, the peripheral device may further compare the determined characteristics against information derived from data stored in a memory of the peripheral device. The information may describe acceptable operating parameters for the computing system. In some implementations, the peripheral device may further determine, based on a result of the comparison, a status for the computing system. The status may indicate whether the computing system is operating within acceptable operating parameters. The status may direct an action by the peripheral device.

  • Patent number: 9514324
Abstract: A computer-implemented method includes restricting access to customer data to certain geographic regions authorized by the customer. The restriction can be managed by associating policy information with the customer data that identifies the geographic regions authorized by the customer. Resources attempting to access the customer data can evaluate the policy information associated with the customer data with respect to the geographic location in which the resource is located to determine whether the resource is permitted to access the customer data. The restriction can also be managed by encrypting the customer data with a cryptographic key that corresponds to the customer and/or the authorized geographic regions.

  • Patent number: 9147175
Abstract: A dynamic inventory tracking and transfer system is provided that, when in operation, keeps track of inventory by tracking vehicle positions and inventory transfers. A transceiver on a vehicle detects and transmits a signal to the tracking system whenever a vehicle latches onto inventory and/or releases (i.e., unlatches) inventory. Whenever latch and unlatch signals are detected close in proximity to one another, the system concludes an inventory transfer has been made between the two vehicles. The inventory monitoring takes place in real time, thereby allowing inventory to be tracked from the time it is removed from a ship/train to the time it leaves a sea port, rail terminal or industrial yard.

  • Publication number: 20140222644
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for processing data. The apparatus includes a plurality of entry systems for receiving the data from a respective plurality of contributors which each formulate the data based on respectively different: a) input data, and b) rules for governing how the input data is used to formulate the data. The apparatus also includes a tracking system having a data normalizer configured to normalize the formulated data received from each of the plurality of contributors into a common format. The tracking system performs at least one comparison of the normalized data from the entry systems and signals results of the comparison.

  • Publication number: 20130251527
Abstract: The Sail Enhanced Wind Turbine System will increase the output of the wind turbine within the system by increasing the amount of force, or wind, being applied to the turbine. A sail generates force in a direction by collecting air and directing it. By mounting a sail such that the force of the sail may be directed onto the turbine, and operating the sail such that the force is directed onto the turbine, the wind turbine becomes more efficient with an increased output.

  • Publication number: 20120290833
Abstract: A system, method and a computer-readable medium for generating an authentication password for authenticating a client to a server. A digital certificate that includes private key, and a public key is provided. A hash of a content of a digital certificate is generated. The hash is also encrypted with a private key. The encrypted hash and the content of the digital certificate are encoded into a certificate blob, which is utilized as an authorization password.

  • Patent number: 6957798
Abstract: This invention provides a pinch valve having a pinch region defined by a pair of rotating pinch elements. These pinch elements define a variable profile that substantially surrounds the entire circumference of a tube in the pinch region and that thereby ensures that the tube is always returned to the desired opening size at all valve adjustment settings in a range from fully open to fully closed. More particularly, the pinch elements are provided with a pinch region that defines a surface geometry that includes a continuously variable-length (ramping) linear segment, disposed at a continuously variable depth (ramping from full open to fully pinched), that pinches the walls into a pair of opposed parallel lines throughout the majority of their rotational movement/adjustment range.

  • Patent number: 6344604
Abstract: A pad for closure of a musical wind instrument tonehole. The pad consists of a cushion that is contained within a rigid holder that has a recess with a lip (lips) or angular, constricting lateral side (sides) to secure the cushion within the holder. A notch is provided in the cushion's rigid holder that allows a tool to be inserted in order to pry out the cushion from the cushion holder so that shims may be easily installed and adjusted to obtain a precise seal between the pad surface and the tonehole rim. The shimming procedure can be performed without having to remove the cup/key and the pad from the wind instrument. An improved way of shimming pads, such as flute pads, by providing a pad fastening device which does not require removal of the pad closing mechanism from the instrument body. This is achieved by replacing the usual pad retining screw with a magnet that can easily be removed and replaced with a tweezers.

  • Patent number: 5672004
Abstract: Disclosed is a lighting apparatus of the type having a retainer, a lamp holder held by the retainer, and a lamp secured with respect to such holder. In the improvement, the lamp holder has a pair of support edges spaced from one another by a first dimension. The retainer includes first and second notches, each having a pair of notch edges spaced from one another by a second dimension which is greater than the first dimension. So configured, the holder may be removed through the notches without having access to the rear of the apparatus. In a specific embodiment, the lamp holder is a sphere truncated along two planes to form an "eyeball-like" structure which may be moved in the retainer for adjusting the position of the light beam. A new method is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5242320
Abstract: A combination throttle/shift control system, configured for providing the full control of throttle and shift functions on a single lever, taught in the exemplary embodiment in conjunction with a marine propulsion system. The preferred embodiment of the present invention allows the full control of propulsion systems throttle and control functions in a single lever, as opposed to most traditional designs, which require the utilization of separate control levers and cables. This is accomplished via the utilization of a relay triggered actuator arrangement wherein there is provided a magnetic switch system for monitoring the positioning of the actuator travel rod relative a switched relay system. The present invention simplifies both the use and mechanical complexity of throttle and shift control systems, resulting in an appreciable increase in the ease of use, while reducing overall expense and maintenance requirements.

  • Patent number: 5154083
Abstract: A method of making an isolator flow device for use in a process fluid system. The device has a body and an elastomeric sensor ring in the body, through which process fluid flows. There is an annular space outside the sensor ring for communicating outside the body to sense pressure on the ring by the process fluid. In the method, the ring is formed by in-situ molding to the body, and is bonded to the body at its opposite ends, leaving an intermediate portion unbonded. Then, the elastomer will shrink annularly to create an annular space between the body and the ring.
