  • Patent number: 4164281
Abstract: Spotting instrumentalities for turning containers traveling along a predetermined path on a conveyor comprising, at opposite sides of the conveyor, a pair of drive rolls and a pair of idler rolls, said pairs of rolls being movable linearly along said path and, while being so moved, rotatable about axes parallel to the vertical axis of the container, said drive rolls being driven in rotation to rotate the container and said idler rolls being freely rotatable and a positioning dog operable by engagement with the positioning element on the side of the container to stop rotation of the container at a predetermined position of orientation. The drive rolls are provided with traction elements adapted to slip when rotation of the container is stopped by the positioning element and the idler rolls are provided with guide elements adapted to be displaced laterally by out-of-round containers and/or irregularities in the surfaces of the containers.

  • Patent number: 4097325
Abstract: In a label-applying machine for applying labels adapted to be rendered adhesive by an application of heat, a vacuum picker for removing the labels one at a time from the magazine and moving them to a transfer position, a vacuum gripper finger at the transfer position for taking the labels from the picker and moving them to a position for application to containers supported for movement along a predetermined path, said gripper fingers being heated to render the labels tacky during movement from the transfer position to the containers for spotting the labels on the containers, and wipers situated along the path of travel of the containers beyond the place of spotting of the labels for pressing the labels against the sides of the containers, and means for heating the wipers to cause the labels to be adhesively attached to the containers.

  • Patent number: 3941642
Abstract: A labeling machine wherein there is a picker reciprocably movable between a label magazine and a transfer position for transferring labels to a gripper assembly at the transfer position whereupon the gripper assembly takes the label from the picker and applies it to a container and wherein there is an adhesive pick-up roll supported in a container of adhesive and a transfer roll reciprocably movable in timed relation to the movement of the picker to transfer a coating of adhesive from the pick-up roll to the surface of the picker; characterized in that the transfer roll is a driven roll and is rotated while in contact with the pick-up roll at least one complete revolution, and further characterized in that while in contact with the surface of the picker is rotated no more than one complete revolution as it travels from one end of the picker surface to the other end thereof.
