    Abstract: The luminaire includes a light emitting diode (LED) module that includes a heat sink with an outer wall defining a top cavity and a bottom cavity and a mounting flange generally positioned along the bottom of the outer wall. A LED light source is positioned within the bottom cavity and in thermal communication with the heat sink. The bottom surface of the mounting flange includes one or more alignment features or keys extending out from the bottom surface. A trim having a corresponding alignment aperture is matingly engaged by positioning all or a portion of the alignment feature into the alignment aperture to ensure proper orientation of the trim with the LED module and to provide sufficient surface area for good thermal transfer between the heat sink and the trim.

Circuitry for the light emitting diodes can be disposed in the cavity, so that the rim or raised edge encloses or houses the circuitry. The circuitry can comprise a light emitting diode driver, for example. The rim or raised edge can block emission of unwanted light, for example to function as a light pollution shield.
