Patent number: 6868281Abstract: A wireless telephone which includes the functionality to operate in a plurality of dialing modes. When a wireless telephone is powered up and in an idle mode, a telephone user has the option of operating the phone in a first dialing mode which simulates the operation of a land line phone and a second dialing mode which is a wireless mode of operation. Either mode may be initiated without requiring any additional steps to be performed by the telephone user. In the first mode, the telephone user may depress a “Talk” button on the keypad of the wireless phone. A dial tone is transmitted through the speaker and at this point a telephone number may be entered through the keypad. After entry of the number and the passing of a timeout period, the telephone number is automatically transmitted to the telephone network in order to establish a telephonic connection. In the second mode, a telephone user begins by entering the telephone number into the memory.Type: GrantFiled: December 31, 1998Date of Patent: March 15, 2005Assignee: Qwest Communications Int'l., Inc.Inventors: Stephanie Petrakos, Edward A. Patent number: 6731935Abstract: A method and system for generating one of a first and second audible tone in a telephony system including a telephony device responsive to a first signal to generate the first audible tone and responsive to a second signal to generate the second audible tone includes receiving an information signal from the telephony system and a user initiated signal from the telephony device indicating a desire to initiate a call from the telephony device. A processor processes the information signal and the user initiated signal to determine at least one of billing rate information, available services, and service control procedures associated with the desired call and generate one of the first and second signals. A dial tone generator generates one of the first and second audible tones in response to one of the first and respectively.Type: GrantFiled: January 13, 2003Date of Patent: May 4, 2004Assignee: Qwest Communications International Inc.Inventors: Stephanie Petrakos, Edward A. Patent number: 6721412Abstract: A method of coordinating an incoming call among a plurality of telephony devices includes generating an incoming call notification signal and a call status signal at each telephony device. In the presence of the incoming call, the incoming call notification signal is generated at each telephony device. Upon answering of the incoming call at an answering telephony device of the plurality of telephony devices, the call status signal is generated at each telephony device to inform a user of a status of the answered call.Type: GrantFiled: May 8, 2000Date of Patent: April 13, 2004Assignee: Qwest Communications International Inc.Inventor: Edward A. Publication number: 20030092452Abstract: A method and system for simultaneously sharing wireless communications among multiple wireless handsets deployed in a wireless network having at least one cell site associated therewith includes a first and second wireless handset for transmitting a request for the same wireless communication. The wireless network then assigns a first wireless receive channel to the first wireless handset and the second wireless handset and simultaneously transmits the requested wireless communication to the first and second wireless handsets for receipt by the first wireless receive channel. If the requested wireless communication originates from a source handset, and the first and second handsets are located in direct communication proximity to the source handset, the source handset itself negotiates the common wireless receive channel for receiving the requested wireless communication.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 26, 2002Publication date: May 15, 2003Applicant: Qwest Communications International Inc.Inventors: Edward A.
