    Abstract: A modular field planting system adapted for installation on a roof surface includes an arrangement of substantially identical tray members with each tray member containing two tray compartments. An array of first tray members is positioned on the roof surface with the tray members being in contiguous relationship and oriented in a first direction. A second tray member positionable in overlying relationship with respect to the first tray and rotated 90° with respect to the first direction, is nestably seated within corresponding tray compartments in each of two adjacent first tray members. A wicking material in the first tray member is placed in communication with a wicking material in the second tray member when the respective first and second tray members are seated. The first tray member is adapted to provide a reservoir for water and the second tray member is adapted to retain a growth medium whereby the wicking material provides continuous moisture migration for hydrating the growth medium.

    Abstract: Techniques for performing ?? modulation with offset in order to reduce out-of-band quantization noise are described. In an exemplary oversampling DAC that implements ?? modulation with offset, an interpolation filter performs upsampling and interpolation filtering on data samples to generate input samples. A summer adds an offset to the input samples to generate intermediate samples. The offset alters the characteristics of the quantization noise from a ?? modulator and may be selected to obtain the desired quantization noise characteristics, to retain as much dynamic range as possible, and to simplify the removal of the offset. The ?? modulator performs upsampling and noise shaping on the intermediate samples and provides output samples. An offset removal unit removes at least a portion of the offset from the output samples in the digital or analog domain. A DAC converts the output samples to analog.

    Abstract: In a wireless communications system, transceivers transmit short bursts to a base station, which determines timing corrections from the time of receipt of the burst and transmits the timing corrections to the respective transceivers. In one aspect, the base station indicates to the transceivers a plurality of time slots, each transceiver selects one of the time slots at random, formats a burst including an indicator of the selected time slot and transmits the burst in that slot. In another aspect, the base station transmits to each transceiver a timing uncertainty value, which determines how the timing correction will be modified by the tranceiver as the interval since last receiving a timing correction increases. Data bursts are transmitted in a format comprising a first unique word, a content field and a second unique word, in that order. The bursts are transmitted in a TDMA channel format which can accommodate both short and long bursts in a block format of constant periodicity.

    Abstract: An HQ tube arrangement suitable for packaging within a vehicle may be designed by creating a mathematical model representing a tube arrangement having a first passageway and a second passageway fluidly connected to the first passageway at first and second junctions. The second passageway is divided by the junctions into first, second, and third passages. Lengths are associated with each of the first passageway and the first, second, and third passages. A filter parameter, based upon an average transmission loss for a particular frequency over a standard deviation, is analyzed as a function of the lengths. Lengths are chosen based upon analysis of the filter parameter. Portions of the outer walls of the first and second passageways may be secured to or common to one another so that lengths of the passageways run along side of each other to provide a more compact HQ tube arrangement.

The system has an air inlet duct housing with an inlet and an outlet connected to the engine. A resonator is supported by the housing and is positioned between a speaker assembly and the engine to attenuate the peak noise resulting in an attenuated low frequency engine noise. A microphone senses the attenuated low frequency engine noise and generates an attenuated low frequency engine noise signal. A controller receives and phase shifts the signal and sends the signal to the speaker to generate a sound field to cancel or reduce the attenuated low frequency engine noise signal.

    Abstract: An intake manifold includes a plenum volume 14 mounted for movement within a housing 20 in response to a drive system 22 to define an effective runner length. A multiple of deformable runner passages 18 include a flexible section 26 such that as the plenum 14 extends and retracts within the housing 20, the flexible section 26 accommodates the difference in length while the housing 20 provides structural support therefor. An intake conduit 12 likewise includes a flexible section 26 to accommodate movement of the plenum 14. In operation at low engine speeds, the plenum 14 is driven to extend the deformable runner passages 18 to increase the length between the plenum 14 and the engine cylinders 16. As the engine speed increases, the plenum 14 is driven to shorten the deformable runner 18 for maximum speed operation.
