Abstract: The instant invention generally relates to absorbents formed from compacting bentonite-containing materials containing an effective amount of the bentonite particles of a size under 100 U.S. mesh. The absorbent is compacted under effective compacting pressures to form a bentonite material suitable for use as an absorbent and is characterized as having lower costs, increased absorbency over similarly sized and compositionally similar non-compacted bentonite-containing materials and/or improved clump strength when used as an absorbent.

Abstract: The invention relates to multilayer degradable thermoplastic articles. In one embodiment the novel multilayer thermoplastic article comprises a first outer layer, a core layer and second outer layer, wherein the first outer layer and second outer layer are degradable by photo, thermal or chemical means and contain an effective amount of a prodegradant and the core layer is a water-soluble and/or biodegradable core layer, preferably both water-soluble and biodegradable. Bags formed from the multilayer thermoplastic article are useful for use in the composting of organic material.

The films and bag structures preferably have an outer film layer of a resin material having a melt temperature which is higher than that of the other film layer. The outer film layer material is preferably a polyester or a polyamide. The films and bag structures are particularly suitable for use as frozen food storage containers and for subsequent heating and/or cooking of food therein.
