  • Publication number: 20030152698
Abstract: The cylinder walls of light metal engine blocks are thermally spray coated with a ferrous-based coating including aluminum using an HVOF device. A ferrous-based wire is fed to the HVOF device to locate a tip end of the wire in a high temperature zone of the device. Jet flows of oxygen and gaseous fuel are fed to the high temperature zone and are combusted to generate heat to melt the tip end. The oxygen is oversupplied in relation to the gaseous fuel. The excess oxygen reacts with and burns a fraction of the ferrous-based feed wire in an exothermic reaction to generate substantial supplemental heat to the HVOF device. The molten/combusted metal is sprayed by the device onto the walls of the cylinder by the jet flow of gases.

  • Patent number: 5810562
Abstract: A composite rotating swashplate for a helicopter rotor system which includes rotor blades with associated control rods. The control rods control the pitch of the rotor blades. The composite rotating swashplate according to the present invention includes an outer tubular ring with an inner tubular ring located within the outer ring. The outer ring is made from braids of tri-axial graphite fibers interwoven with unidirectional plies. The inner tubular ring is made from braided .+-.45 degree graphite fibers. A support ring is located within the outer ring and external to an inboard periphery of the inner tubular ring. A plurality of apertures are formed through the outer and inner rings. The apertures are adapted to receive the terminal ends of the control rods. Mounting bolts extend through at least one wall of the outer and inner rings and attach the terminal ends of the control rods to the swashplate.

  • Patent number: 5643460
Abstract: A method for separating emulsified oil from water in petroleum production is disclosed. Low molecular weight polymers of dimethylaminoethyl acrylate methyl chloride and benzyl chloride quaternary salt have good activity as reverse emulsion breakers for freeing oil tied up as a oil-in-water emulsion. The polymer reverse emulsion breakers are preferably prepared and used as aqueous solutions to obviate the need for inversion techniques and the use of hydrocarbon compatibilizers and surfactants as required for a latex polymer.

  • Patent number: 3995679
Abstract: Apparatus for and method of continuously casting metals by passing a metal core member through a container of molten metal, and thereby accreting and solidifying molten metal on the core member. The invention comprises providing venting means in the apparatus, and method steps for venting gas from portions of the container of molten metal.
