Abstract: There is presented a system and method for associating a domain transcendent identification (ID) of a user and a domain specific ID of the user, the system comprising an ID association server accessible by a plurality of secure domains over a network. The system also includes an ID associator application that when executed by ID association server is configured to receive a domain specific ID that associates the user to the secure domain, enter the domain specific ID in a domain transcendent ID record created for the user, generate a unique data associated with the domain transcendent ID record and identify a network location for submission of the unique data, send the unique data and the network location to the user, and associate the domain transcendent ID and the domain specific ID.

Abstract: There is presented a system and method for simplifying discovery of content availability for a consumer. The system comprises a content availability database storing content records accessible through a server, and an aggregator configured to update the content records. The system also comprises a content discovery application configured to display an information pane corresponding to one of the content records according to a data related to the consumer, the information pane including one or more selectable display features indicating the distribution status of a content unit corresponding to the content record. The content discovery application is further configured to receive an input from the consumer selecting one of the selectable display features indicating distribution status and to identify at least one provider of the content unit according to the selected distribution status.

Abstract: There is presented a system and method enabling visual filtering of content. The system comprises a server, a content database storing content units and accessible through the server, and a filtering and display application. The filtering and display application is configured to enable visual filtering of the content units by filtering a plurality of graphical representations corresponding to a plurality of content units stored by the system, to extract a first plurality of graphical representations for displaying to a user, displaying the first plurality of graphical representations as active graphical representations selectable by the user in a first featured display, and dynamically filtering the first plurality of graphical representations and replacing the first featured display with another featured display of a first subset of active graphical representations selectable by the user according to an input received from the user.

Abstract: An IP multicast aware switched digital method and apparatus are provided in a settop unit wherein packet streams containing reference information are multicast while a select set of program information is routed to the settop units so that multicast streams can be identified and full content can be routed individually to the settop unit for decoding. Specific or preferred embodiment applications include simultaneous output and interactive communication with a television (true video on demand), computer (Internet access), videophone and telephone.

Abstract: There is provided a system and method for time-adapted video content during trick mode playback. There is provided a method of providing a plurality of pre-produced alternative contents for use by a playback device in conjunction with rendering of a content, comprising determining a current playback speed of the playback device, comparing the current playback speed with a real-time playback speed of the playback device that is for viewing the content, selecting one of the plurality of pre-produced alternative contents based on the current playback speed in response to the comparing of the current playback speed with the real-time playback speed, and rendering the one of the plurality of pre-produced alternative contents in place of the rendering of the content. In this manner, more relevant and intelligible video contents can be provided for the user during trick mode playback.

Abstract: There is presented a system and method for updating digital media content. The system comprises a data structure residing on a media storage, the digital media content being stored in the data structure. The system further comprises a processor coupled to the media storage and configured to access the data structure, and receive an update to one or more modifiable elements of the data structure from an authoritative source external with respect to the data structure. The processor is further configured to modify the modifiable elements according to the update, and store the modified elements in the data structure. As a result, updates to the modifiable elements are persistently stored in the data structure.

Abstract: There is presented a system for managing digital media content, the system comprising a media server accessible over a communications network, the media server including a server processor. The server processor is configured to identify a first container data structure, the first container data structure including the digital media content encoded in a first encoding format. The server processor is also configured to use a digital media profile, and to extract a media file including the digital media content encoded in the first encoding format, from the first container data structure, according to the digital media profile. The server processor is further configured to assemble the media file in a second container data structure.
