  • Patent number: 5076734
Abstract: A mine roof anchor assembly usable with a quick-setting resin cartridge inserted into a mine roof opening including an elongated bolt having a first end and a second end, the bolt being threaded for a portion of its length at the second end. A mechanical anchor is carried on the threaded portion of the bolt and extends along a longitudinal axis in a longitudinal direction. The anchor assembly further includes a resin mixer attached to the bolt extending below the mechanical anchor toward the first end. The resin mixer includes an open-ended hollow sleeve having flared ends integral with a tube-like section positioned therebetween. The sleeve also includes at least one outwardly extending integral fin extending in the longitudinal direction and having a maximum radial distance from the central longitudinal axis less than the mine roof opening radius. A frangible element may also be carried on the elongated bolt between the mechanical anchor and the resin mixer.

  • Patent number: 5052861
Abstract: A mine roof anchor assembly usable with a quick-setting resin cartridge inserted into a mine roof opening is disclosed and includes a partially threaded elongated bolt having a first end, a mechanical anchor, such as a bail-type or mechanical expansion type, at a threaded end, and a mixing element, such as a coil, having an upper end attached to the bolt and positioned external of and surrounding a length along the bolt. The bolt receives a frangible hollow plastic sleeve which is positioned about the threaded portion and extends below the mechanical anchor toward the bolt head. A stopping element attaches to the bolt below the mechanical anchor toward the first end, whereby the frangible sleeve is sandwiched between the stopping element and the mechanical anchor. A shaft can also be coupled to the first end extending the length of the anchor assembly.

  • Patent number: 4704053
Abstract: The anchor bolt assembly is of the type used in mine roofs and the like in which the anchor bolt assembly is positioned in a bore hole of a rock formation. The bolt assembly includes an elongated shaft having a frustoconical shaped plug at the upper end of the shaft and a head on the lower end of the shaft. A quick-setting resin cartridge is positioned in the bore hole above the plug of the bolt shaft and the bolt assembly is secured to the rock formation by at least the resin. The anchor assembly includes a helical coil external of, surrounding and connected to the bolt shaft for mixing the resin and urging it upward toward the plug end while the bolt shaft is rotated in one continuous direction. The helical coil is disposed below the conical plug and extends a substantial length along the bolt shaft to achieve the mixing.

  • Patent number: 4679967
Abstract: A truss bracket for use in a mine roof support system using double tie bars. The truss bracket comprises a substantially flat, planar member for engagement with the mine roof, and an extension depending normal to the planar member. The extension has an angularly disposed channel in communication with an aperture in the planar member. The channel and aperture accommodate a rib or anchor bolt for attachment of the truss bracket. The extension also includes a pair of openings spaced from each other and from the planar member. Each of the openings accommodate a tie bar in parallel relationship to the planar member and to each other. Most preferably, the truss bracket further comprises a tie bar support ring angularly attached to the planar member to accommodate a tie bar in the event of sagging.

  • Patent number: 4655645
Abstract: The anchor bolt assembly is of the type used in mine roofs and the like in which the anchor bolt assembly is positioned in a bore hole of a rock formation. The bolt assembly includes an elongated bolt shaft with a head on one end and is threaded on the other end and has a mechanical expansion anchor on the threaded end. A quick-setting resin cartridge is positioned in the bore hole above the threaded end of the bolt shaft and the bolt assembly is secured to the rock formation by both the expansion anchor and the resin. The anchor assembly includes a helical coil surrounding the bolt shaft for mixing the resin and urging it upwardly toward the threaded end while the bolt shaft is rotated in one continuous direction to secure the mechanical anchor to the rock formation. A method of anchoring such a bolt assembly is also disclosed.
