    Abstract: In the hot-machining of metallic workpieces localized heating of the workpiece by a plasma torch is achieved immediately preceeding a cutting tool. Pure argon gas is used as the plasma gas in the heating plasma torch, and the electrical power input to the plasma gas is kept within an operative range up to 10 kilowatts.
