  • Publication number: 20060037590
Abstract: A cooling system including an intake air cooling subsystem and a liquid cooling subsystem for controlling intake air temperatures in a supercharged internal combustion diesel locomotive engine. The intake air cooling subsystem includes an air-to-water aftercooler and an air-to-air aftercooler having intake air sides connected to receive intake air flow in series between a supercharger and an engine. The liquid cooling subsystem includes at least one liquid cooling loop having a pump, a radiator and a water coolant side of the air-to-water aftercooler. At least one shared fan circulates air flow to the cooling air sides of the air-to-air aftercooler and the radiator. An optional air distribution control selectively directs circulated air flow between the air-to-air aftercooler, the radiator and other optional components of the cooling system.

  • Publication number: 20050016473
Abstract: An engine cooling system includes a centrifugal coolant pump and a cavitation suppressor in the system upstream of the pump inlet. The suppressor increases pressure in the pump inlet by a converging nozzle that accelerates a jet of coolant at the location of the static head and converting kinetic energy of the jet to increased pressure in a diffuser. In an exemplary embodiment, the suppressor is formed of simple components made from available materials and preferably welded into an assembly. A machined nozzle with a diffuser and head pipe made from available steel pipe comprise the main components of the exemplary cavitation suppressor.

  • Patent number: 5629505
Abstract: A switch assembly having a relatively fixed component, a first switch operating member rotatable relative to the fixed component between first and second stable positions, a second switch operating member rotatable with respect to the fixed component between first and second stable positions, switch contacts associated with each of the switch operating members in order to control the operation of respective electrical circuits, and a latch member responsive to the first operating member occupying its first position for applying a moment to the second operating member to restore it to its first position.

  • Patent number: 4321437
Abstract: An operating lever assembly for a multifunction switch wherein the lever carries a rotary switch along its length and a push action switch at its end. The operating member of the push action switch is movable longitudinally relative to the lever to operate the push action switch and rotatable about the axis of the lever to operate the rotary switch.

  • Patent number: 4297549
Abstract: A direction indicator switch wherein the relatively fixed body of the switch carries a rotor movable manually relative thereto from a central rest position to either of first and second operative positions on opposite sides respectively of the rest position. The body carries a striker collar which is rotatable relative to the body with the steering shaft of the vehicle in use. Rotation of the striker collar is intended to effect return movement of the rotor from either of its operative positions to the rest position. A releasable latch is provided on the body whereby the striker collar is retained in a predetermined angular position relative to the body during assembly of the switch to the vehicle. After assembly of the switch to the vehicle the latch is released to permit the collar to rotate with the steering shaft of the vehicle relative to the body.

  • Patent number: 4238650
Abstract: An electrical switch including a body and an elongate operating lever which extends from the body for manual operation. The lever, or at least part of the lever is rotatable about its longitudinal axis to effect a first switching action and is movable angularly relative to the body of the switch about an axis generally transverse to the longitudinal axis of the lever so as to effect a second switching action. An interlock arrangement is provided whereby in the angularly moved position of the lever rotational movement of the lever about its longitudinal axis is resisted.

  • Patent number: 4204099
Abstract: An electrical switch of the kind wherein an operating lever is movable relative to the fixed body of the switch in whole or in part in different modes to operate contacts of the switch. The switch includes a contact carrier which is supported on the fixed body for movement relative thereto in a first plane between first and second positions. A movable contact member is supported by the carrier, but is movable relative to the carrier between first and second positions. First and second fixed electrical contacts are engageable by the contact member in the first position of the contact member while the contact carrier occupies its first position, and third and fourth fixed electrical contacts are spaced from the first and second fixed electrical contacts in the direction of movement of the contact carrier. The third and fourth fixed contacts are engageable by the movable contact member while the contact member is in its first position but with the carrier in its second position.

  • Patent number: 4129757
Abstract: A multiposition, multicontact, hermetically-sealed electrical switch assembly includes a body, a movable element supported by the body for movement relative thereto, and first electrical contacts operable by movement of the element relative to the body. Extending from the movable element to facilitate movement of the element relative to the body is an operating lever and an operating member is carried by the lever adjacent its free end. The operating member is rotatable relative to the lever about the longitudinal axis of the free end region of the lever. A drive piece is mounted adjacent the movable element for rotation relative to the operating lever about the longitudinal axis of the region of the lever adjacent the movable element and second electrical contacts are operable by rotation of the drive piece relative to the lever.
