  • Publication number: 20090300054
Abstract: A system is disclosed for formulating structure descriptions from data. In some embodiments, data arrives with an unknown format. The data may be ad hoc data that is considered semi-structured. Disclosed embodiments analyze chunks of the data to determine tokens. Tokens are analyzed to identify base types and compound types such as structs, unions, and arrays. Descriptions are generated and undergo scoring and rewriting for optimization. The generated descriptions may be fed to a data description language such as Processing Ad Hoc Data System (PADS) and compiled for processing the raw data. In some embodiments, the raw data is parsed, printed, or reformatted using the generated descriptions.

  • Patent number: 7610783
Abstract: The invention discloses several types of fastener, fastening systems, fastener assemblies and related areas. In particular, the invention discloses a releasable fastening system (150) which has a pin (152) with a locking cavity (163). The pin is intended for insertion in an aperture (154). A locking means (158, 160) engages the locking cavity (163) of the pin (152) when the pin (152) is received in the aperture (154). The system (150) also includes unlocking means (162) which includes material adapted to contract when activated. When a material contracts, engagement means (158) included in the locking means (158, 160), disengage the locking cavity (154).

  • Patent number: 7600301
Abstract: In the first aspect, the invention provides a fastener which includes a fastening element and an actuating means attached to the fastening element. The fastening element has a flexible beam and an engagement means. The actuating means includes a material, such as shape memory alloy, which contracts when activated. When the material is contracted, the beam moves between an engagement position and a disengagement position. In a second aspect, the invention provides a fastener for use in a network of fasteners. The fastener has address means which serve to distinguish the fastener from the other fasteners in the network. The fastener may be the same as the fastener in the first aspect of the invention, or a different fastener. A network or system of such fasteners is also provided.

  • Patent number: 7509116
Abstract: A system for remotely tracking a mobile unit is presented. The system includes a computer connected to a data network, mobile units collecting data and transmitting the data to the computer, and a configuration database connected to the data network. The configuration database stores configuration parameters for the mobile units. The mobile units are programmed to contact the configuration database upon being powered on, obtain the configuration parameters, and transmit the collected data to the computer according to the configuration parameters. Since each configuration file could apply to multiple mobile units, the system provides an efficient way to control the data reporting patterns of many mobile units. The configuration database may be organized in layers of configuration files for improved flexibility. Files from different layers can be mixed and matched and then applied to a group of mobile units.

  • Patent number: 7472461
Abstract: A coupling member (20) includes cylindrical body (22) and hook (24). Sleeve (70) slides over the outer surface of body (22) between and open position (as shown) and a closed position and carries pin (50) which is guided by slots (60, 62) formed in body (22). Closure shaft (30) is mounted within body (22) and biased by spring (42) towards a closed position wherein end (32) of shaft (30) is received within recess (44) formed in portion (26) of hook (24). Pin (50) is slidably mounted in transverse bore (56) of shaft (30). Spring (58) biases pin head (52) towards shaft (30) so that when shaft (30) is in the closed position, pin head (52) is seated in recess (66) and shaft (30) is thereby locked in the closed position. Coupling member (20) can be used for securing lines in mountaineering or cave diving.

  • Publication number: 20080104065
Abstract: Automatically generating and updating of frequently asked question (FAQ) lists are described herein. User inputs requesting information are matched to stored question and answer pairs, and values associated with the stored question and answer pairs are manipulated. An FAQ list may be generated and updated by selecting relevant question and answer pairs by comparing parameters supplied by an authoritative user (e.g., a webmaster) with values associated with the stored question and answer pairs. Selected question and answer pairs are added to the FAQ list, which may be displayed on a web site. Additionally, the FAQ list may be updated with new question and answer pairs based on parameters from the authoritative user or varying values in known question and answer pairs.
