  • Patent number: 6867301
Abstract: A process for the preparation of a quinacridone comprises oxidation of a 6,13-dihydroquinacridone using hydrogen peroxide, wherein a polymeric dispersant is present in the oxidation reaction mixture. The resulting pigment products exhibit greatly improved dispersibility relative to pigments in which the polymeric dispersant is not present during the oxidation reaction.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 23, 2003
Date of Patent: March 15, 2005
    Assignee: Ciba Specialty Chemicals Corporation
Inventors: Ulrich Schädeli, Edward Ephraim Jaffe, Linda SnyderAllen

  • Patent number: 5871827
Abstract: This application discloses two-coat and three-coat automotive finishes, articles coated by an automotive finish and a process for their preparation wherein polychromism is achieved in the finish by incorporating an opaque, light interference pigment into the topcoat or a midcoat. The invention further relates to a coating composition which contains an opaque interference pigment at a pigment to binder ratio of less than 7/100.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 18, 1997
Date of Patent: February 16, 1999

  • Patent number: 5869625
Abstract: The present invention relates to colorant blends comprising (a) an azo component, which is a salt of a salt-forming azo pigment of the formulaA--N.dbd.N--B,wherein A is the residue of a diazo component and B is the residue of a coupling component; and (b) a second component, which is an opaque 1,4-diketo-3,6-diaryl-pyrrolo?3,4-c!pyrrole pigment. The colorant blends are especially useful in coating compositions, such as paints.

  • Patent number: 4015998
Abstract: The disclosure teaches the preparation of a unique 2,9-dichloroquinacridone which provides a heat stable, highly dispersible magenta colorant suitable for use in plastics and the like where heat stability and lightfastness are necessary. The disclosure further teaches a pigmentary composition wherein the unique 2,9-dichloroquinacridone is combined with molybdate orange pigment to give a true red pigment of superior intensity, lightfastness and heat stability.

  • Patent number: 3979377
Abstract: Yellow azo pigment is prepared by coupling 2,4- or 2,5-dichloroaniline with barbituric acid. In coating compositions these pigments provide high color strength, hiding power, lightfastness and bleed resistance and are particularly useful in industrial finishes.
