  • Patent number: 5571588
Abstract: The present invention relates to commercial and institutional inlaid floorcoverings having a uniform, unpatterned decorative appearance. Colored spheroidal particles having an aspect ratio no greater than about 2:1 are provided in a dense, uniform matrix layer to create the decorative appearance. Flame retardant and smoke suppressant compositions can be incorporated in the floorcoverings without detrimentally affecting their appearance.

    Assignee: Tarkett Inc.
Inventors: Edward F. Lussi, Thomas G. Smith
  • Patent number: 5015516
Abstract: The invention provides decorative, inlaid sheet materials which incorporate a matrix layer of discreet, low aspect ratio resinous particles embedded in a resinous coating. The use of printed patterns which are visible beneath the adhesive matrix containing the particles constitutes a preferred embodiment of the invention. The sheet materials of this invention are real through-patterned inlaids which no not lose their pattern due to wear in use, and which offer unique design advantages and flexibility, as well as superior properties.

  • Patent number: 4916007
Abstract: An underprinted inlaid sheet material having unique design effects comprising:(a) a substrate,(b) a first layer of a resinous polymer composition,(c) a pattern or design, printed on the surface of the first layer and having two or more distinguishably different colored, printed portions, and(d) a second layer of a resinous polymer composition, overlying the surface of the printed first layer, in contact therewith, and containing a plurality of variously colored transparent, transluscent and/or opaque particles, substantially, uniformly dispersed throughout said second layer.

Inventors: Andrew J. Manning, Edward F. Lussi, William R. Marley
  • Patent number: 4794020
Abstract: An improved process, particularly adapted for making that type of sheet vinyl covering materials known as inlaids by first depositing resinous particles on a wet ungelled layer of PVC plastisol or organosol and then passing the sheet between a heated, cylindrical surface and a means for gradually and uniformly increasing the contact pressure between the cylindrical surface and the coated surface of the sheet. Upon completion of the step, a substantially uniformly, gelled matrix layer is produced, with the resinous particles embedded therein, and having a smooth and firm surface of uniform thickness.
