  • Patent number: 5713318
Abstract: An extension tube for an internal combustion engine oil fill tube comprises an elongate bent cylindrical member having one threaded end adapted to engage within a threaded port in a valve cover. The tube includes a protruding nub thereon which is positioned to coact with a cavity between segmented threads in the port to produce a detent between the tube and the port when the tube is threaded into the port to a desired relative rotational orientation, for maintaining such orientation. The tube further includes a peripheral flange which compresses a high swell material seal member placed therebeneath against an area disposed about the port to ensure integrity of the engagement.

  • Patent number: 5246359
Abstract: A hose connection element integrally cast as part of a cast structure such as a water outlet conduit for a vehicle engine comprises a tubular structure including a circumferential hose retaining bead with a flawless sealing surface between the bead and a proximal end thereof. A set of three vented tooling elements is used in creating a polystyrene pattern of the cast structure including integral hose connection element including first and second tooling elements to create first and second half-sections of a for a body portion pattern. The first and second tooling elements include a recess at one end thereof to form a socket depression in the body portion. The third tooling element comprises a cylindrical cavity including an outer wall and an inner wall, with the outer wall being uninterrupted by vent openings and including a circumferential area of protruberance near one end thereof, the parting line for the third tooling element being positioned along a crest of the protuberance.

  • Patent number: 5143143
Abstract: A cast tubular structure including an integral hose connection element formed thereon is produced by lost foam casting wherein a circular socket seat is formed on a pattern for a body portion of the cast tubular structure and a cylindrical pattern for the integral hose connection element is formed by a mold without vent openings on the mold surface in the area of the cylindrical pattern corresponding to the hose sealing surface of the cast tubular structure. The pattern sections are joined with the pattern section for the hose connection element sealing within the circular socket seal formed in the body portion of the cast structure.

  • Patent number: 5076345
Abstract: A cast tubular structure including an integral hose connection element formed thereon is produced by lost foam casting wherein a circular socket seat is formed on a pattern for a body portion of the cast tubular structure and a cylindrical pattern for the integral hose connection element is formed by a mold without vent openings on the mold surface in the area of the cyclindrical pattern corresponding to the hose sealing surface of the cast tubular structure. The pattern sections are joined with the pattern section for the hose connection element sealing within the circular socket seal formed in the body portion of the cast structure. The pattern assembly is coated with a slurry and, after drying, is placed in a casting flask. Molten metal is then poured within the coated pattern assembly dissolving the foam patterns and forming the cast tubular structure.

  • Patent number: 4815629
Abstract: A two-element plug having an elastomeric body and a nonsealing retainer molded within the elastomeric body, the retainer having gripping edges which springingly engage portions of the hole walls to maintain the plug body in place, even against a rough as-cast surface having a draft angle. Discontinuities are formed in the gripping edge periphery through the use of scallops and the gripping edge periphery extends beyond the elastomeric periphery to promote better engagement of the walls of the aperture. When used with noncircular holes having rounded corner portions, the retainer is truncated in the corner portions.
