  • Patent number: 8331861
Abstract: A mobile device wirelessly detects another device that is proximate. The mobile device provides to the other device identifications of which content from a particular content source is stored by the mobile device. The mobile device provides to the other device content from the particular source that is stored by the mobile device but not the other device, and receives from the other device content from the particular source that is stored by the other device but not by the mobile device, so that upon conclusion of an interaction between the mobile device and the other device, each device comprises all of the content from the particular content source originally comprised en toto between the two devices.

  • Publication number: 20070276927
Abstract: The present invention provides an intelligent client with a catalog of available streams and keeps a persistent record of each stream to which the user listens and the point at which they stop in each stream. An example method receives a selection for a streamed media file at a mobile communications device. The received selection is sent to a server via a mobile communications network and/or a public data network. A portion of the streamed media file that was not previously presented by the device is received from the server, if the streamed media file was interrupted during a previous presentation. The received portion of the streamed media file is presented on the device.

  • Publication number: 20070150831
Abstract: Methods and systems for scrolling through content of media. An example method performed on a cell phone receives an index of segments from a server over a cellular network and a public data network. The received segment is presented based on the received index of segments. A request for a media file associated with the presented segment is generated and sent, if a user selection signal is received. The index of segments includes information that associates a preselected segment of a full media file with the full media file. A request for a segment associated with the received index of segments to the server is generated and sent and the requested segment is received from the server based on the request before presenting. The requested media file is received and presented after the server processes the request for the media file.

  • Publication number: 20070150606
Abstract: Systems and methods for recording viewing of an advertisement on a mobile computing device. In an example method the mobile computing device initiates presentation of a digital content file having one or more associated advertisements, transmits from the mobile computing device at least one of an identifier for the presented digital content file or an identifier of the associated advertisement over a wireless network to a server, and updates an advertisement impression count at the server based on the transmitted digital content file identifier or associated advertisement identifier. The digital content file and associated one or more advertisement may be received from another mobile computing device. The mobile computing devices include cellular phones.

  • Publication number: 20070150607
Abstract: Systems and methods for allowing communication between two or more proximate mobile computing devices. In one method a first device detects the presence of a second device. A signal is sent by a first device for requesting a comparison of the lists of media files. The signal can be sent to a second device (or to a server over a wireless network) and may include the list of media files associated with the first device. The second device sends a list of media files to the first device after receiving the signal. An alert is outputted if a list of media files associated with the first device is determined to be comparable to a list of media files associated with the second device based on one or more predefined parameters.

  • Publication number: 20070141989
Abstract: A portable communication device includes logic to detect another device in wireless proximity, and to determine if a phone number for contacting the other device is stored by the portable communication device. If a phone number for contacting the other device is stored by the portable communication device, the portable communication device automatically initiates pairing with the other device.

  • Publication number: 20070117586
Abstract: A wireless handheld user device or cellphone that includes the ability to transmit to a recipient digital content that is presently being presented to a user. The device includes a component that presents video or audio, a peer-to-peer activator and a processing device coupled to the component and the peer-to-peer activator. The processor includes a component that selects at least one recipient and a component that wirelessly transmits the presented at least one video or audio to the selected at least one recipient upon activation of the peer-to-peer activator. In one aspect of the invention, the transmission component includes a component that automatically selects a data protocol for the presented at least one video or audio and a component that automatically selects a transmission means from a plurality of transmission means based on cost of transmission and/or a previously defined level of urgency.

  • Publication number: 20060143132
Abstract: Methods and apparatus to enable a distinction between “new” and “used” digital content and to enable a market in used digital content files between mobile phone terminals and an electronic store, securely, by means of a wireless telephony network and a server complex to handle contents right management, transaction reporting, inventory, content delivery, payment, and billing. A server receives a signal generated by a wireless user device that was sent over a wireless telephony network. The signal indicates an election for returning at least one previously purchased digital content item. The server deletes user rights for the at least one digital content item identified by the received signal and sends information to the user device that generated the signal. Access to the associated digital content item at the user device is removed according to the sent information.

  • Publication number: 20050192944
Abstract: Methods and systems for searching a database that includes a plurality of records. Each record includes one or more tokens. The one or more tokens include one or more letters, numbers, or symbols. The system includes a user interface that when activated by a user generates at least one of a query symbol or a string of query symbols. A processing device compares the generated query symbol or string of query symbols to the stored records. An output device presents the record or records having tokens that match the generated query symbol or a string of query symbols based on the comparison. The user interface includes two or more input keys. Each input key is associated with a query symbol and the number of input keys is less than the number of distinct letters, characters, and symbols.

  • Publication number: 20050117747
Abstract: Systems and methods for securely performing digital commerce. A user device provides a first key and a random number to a server over a first network, encrypts the random number and a user identifier using the first key, and sends the encrypted information to the server via a second network. The server generates an encryption of the random number, the user identifier, and a second key using the first key. The user device receives, decrypts and stores the second key. If the user device wants digital content, the server encrypts the digital content using a digital content key and encrypts the digital content key using the second key. The user device receive the encrypted contents, decrypts the digital content key using the second key and decrypts the digital content using the decrypted digital content key. Digital content can be passed to other user devices.
