  • Patent number: 6593414
Abstract: Pressure sensitive adhesive compositions comprising (a) a synthetic polymer latex; and (b) an aqueous dispersion of thinned, derivatized starch are disclosed.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 19, 2001
Date of Patent: July 15, 2003
    Assignee: Penford Corporation
Inventors: Kenneth C. Benton, Yakov A. Letuchy, Edward G. Ludwig, Jr., James M. Quarles
  • Patent number: 5816128
Abstract: A device for severing flexible polymeric tube, pipe, or tubular extrudate, such as flexible light pipe, reproducibly, cleanly, and safely is described. The device comprises a block with two specially aligned cylindrical devices for holding the pipe and a slot between the devices for guiding the severing blade with minimum deviation from its path, and a pivot and mounting upon which a blade in a holder is mounted to give even more accurate and uniform control of the path of the severing action.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 22, 1996
Date of Patent: October 6, 1998
    Assignee: Rohm and Haas Company
Inventors: Andrew Bruce Walter Bigley, Jr., Edward G. Ludwig, Jr., Ramon Calisto Perez, Niels Haun
  • Patent number: 5530940
Abstract: A device for coupling light from a light source to one or more light pipes is described. The device allows for direction of light from a single source through multiple light pipes with minimal loss of light. The device also minimizes heating of the light pipes and provides for an even light intensity distribution over several light pipe surfaces. Potential applications include automotive lighting and interior lighting.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 2, 1995
Date of Patent: June 25, 1996
    Assignee: Rohm and Haas Company
Inventors: Edward G. Ludwig, Jr., Harry J. Lunnemann
  • Patent number: 5307205
Abstract: Efficient, lower weight, more versatile rear projection screens can be produced by combining in laminated form an unmodified clear matrix resin layer with a second sheet containing light diffusing polymer particles of specific size and size distribution.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 16, 1992
Date of Patent: April 26, 1994
    Assignee: Rohm and Haas Company
Inventors: Edward G. Ludwig, Jr., Patricia Maxson, John A. Dorazio
  • Patent number: 5170287
Abstract: A novel light diffusing resin (material) has been invented which combines excellent light diffusing properties with high light transmission. The combination of properties is possible because the material does not significantly backscatter light. Also, the material exhibits good contact clarity. This light diffusing material is an excellent choice for use in projection systems as a method for hiding scratches or imperfections in a rear projection screen such as TV screen, rear projected slides, liquid crystal display (LCD) screens or thin layer electric decoration sheet by using a plastic sheet containing a specific light diffusing particles therein and having a combination of properties including high light transmission properties that does not significantly backscatter ambient light from outside illuminating sources.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 5, 1991
Date of Patent: December 8, 1992
    Assignee: Rohm and Haas Company
Inventors: Edward G. Ludwig, Jr., Shinzo Ushida
