  • Patent number: 10012256
Abstract: A fastener comprises a shank having a first end having a point and a second end having a head. The shank includes a first region beginning at the first end and having a cylindrical cross-section with a first diameter along at least a portion of the first region; and a second region extending from the first region to the head and having a cross section with a second diameter greater than the first diameter. The first region may include a distortion adjacent the tip encompassing at least a portion of a surface of the first region, the distortion having a third diameter greater than the first diameter and less than or equal to the second diameter.

  • Patent number: 7395925
Abstract: A pallet having wooden boards secured together by nails which achieve approved operating characteristics. The nail is embodied in a package secured together by a pair of parallel wires welded to the shanks. Each nail having a shank diameter between 0.078 in. and 0.085 in., each nail is manufactured from steel wire and has a length between 1.50 in. and 2.25 in. The ratio of the head diameter to the shank diameter of each nail is between 2.70 and 3.37.

  • Patent number: 7374384
Abstract: A fastener for use in the construction of pallets is provided which includes a head having a head diameter, a single elongate shank having a nominal shank diameter, and a plurality of rings extending outwardly from the shank. Each ring had a crest and a root, with the crest being located closer to the head than the root. The fastener has a bending yield strength of about 100 ksi or greater, and a length of between about 0.5 inch and 1.75 inches. The ratio of the head diameter to the nominal shank diameter is between 2.70 and 3.37, and the plurality of rings are formed so that an average outer diameter of the crests of the rings between a middle ring and the head is greater than an average outer diameter of the crests of the rings between the middle ring and the tip.

  • Patent number: 6758018
Abstract: The present invention provides a nail suitable for sheathing which provides an enhanced resistance to failure. The nail includes an enlarged head as well as a shank having surface deformations. Sheathing panels are secured to a framing structure through the use of the nail. The enlarged head provides a first clamping surface that is seated against an exterior surface of the sheathing panel. The framing structure within which the shank is secured is a second clamping surface. Through the provision of an enlarged head and a shank having surface deformations, the ability of the nail to maintain the securement of the sheathing panel to the framing structure element is enhanced.

  • Patent number: 6089808
Abstract: An obliquely collated strip of brads useable in an angled magazine of a fastener driving tool, each brad having a head on one end and a point on an opposite end, the point of each brad of the collated strip of brads having a tip defined by converging first, second and third facets so as to form an edge at an acute angle relative to an axis of the brad, the edge of each brad forming a substantially continuous edge of the collated strip of brads, the head of each brad of the collated strip of brads arranged step-wise relative to the head of an adjacent brad, the step-wise arrangement of heads forming a stepped edge substantially parallel to the substantially continuous edge of the collated strip of brads, the head of each brad of the collated strip of brads being disposed at an angle relative to the axis of the brad, the angle of the head sloping oppositely relative to the angle of the substantially continuous edge of the collated strip of brads.

  • Patent number: 5761863
Abstract: The present invention is directed to structural molding members and to a structural molding system designed to retroactively connect together walls, the roof, floors, and the foundation of a preexisting house or building. The structural members are for reinforcing a building so that all external forces applied to the building are transferred to the foundation. The structural molding members are particularly useful for preventing damage to the building when the building is exposed to high winds and seismic activity. In general, the structural molding members include a support bracket that is mounted directly to the exterior surfaces of a building and connected to internal frame components. The support bracket can then be covered with a molding member, a light fixture, or the like to provide an aesthetic appeal to the reinforcing structure.
