  • Publication number: 20030105651
Abstract: A process for insuring and risk managing the decommissioning and/or abandonment of an oil and gas production facility such as an off shore oil and gas production platform. The process includes first collecting data related to an oil and gas field and it's production facility from a potential client. Based on the collected data, a model for predicting the production net value profile of the oil and gas field and an estimated time of abandonment is determined. Also, the cost of future decommissioning and abandonment is estimated, the cost of environmental insurance for decommissioning and abandonment is estimated and the cost of transfer of liability insurance is estimated. The three costs are added to estimate a premium to be collected over the life of the oil and gas field. The estimated premium and the field profile model are now used to build a premium payment curve to be paid by the client.

  • Publication number: 20020165809
Abstract: A process for packaging and securitizing future oil and gas production stream from one or more wells. The process is based on the relative predictability of future oil and gas production levels. The predictability of future production permits the creation of a “production backed security” supported by a revenue stream derived from the packaged oil and gas production. The process includes first establishing a trust managed by a trustee or a fund managed by a fund manager. The trust is used for purchasing oil and gas production streams from one or more oil and gas producer. At the same time, an engineering data and asset management service develops a comprehensive database related to the oil and gas wells and their production. The database is used for analyzing and monitoring the oil and gas production streams to be purchased from the oil and gas producer. The trust then issues and sells the production backed securities to investors.

  • Patent number: 6442489
Abstract: A method for detection and monitoring of hydrocarbon deposits by measuring infrasonic spectral characteristics of microseismic noise of the earth. The method is used onshore and offshore for detection of hydrocarbon deposits and for monitoring of producing oil and gas fields and subsurface storage of natural gas. In one method of the invention, at least one receiver of seismic vibrations capable of recording vibrations in the infrasonic range is placed over an area being surveyed. The spectral characteristics of the microseismic noise of the earth recorded within a 2 to 5 Hz frequency range are used as a “passive” information signal. A hydrocarbon deposit is determined by the presence of a spectral anomaly on a spectrum of the passive information signal relative to a spectrum of an information signal from the area known not to contain hydrocarbons.
