Patent number: 9936384Abstract: Methods and systems are provided that use smartcards, such as subscriber identity module (SIM) cards to provide secure functions for a mobile client. One embodiment of the invention provides a mobile communication network system that includes a mobile network, a mobile terminal, a server coupled to the mobile terminal via the mobile network, and a subscriber identity module (SIM) card coupled to the mobile terminal. The SIM card includes a first key and a second key. The first key is used to authenticate an intended user of the mobile terminal to the mobile network. Upon successful authentication of the intended user to the mobile network, the mobile terminal downloads a function offered from the server through the mobile network. The second key is then used by the mobile terminal to authenticate the intended user to the downloaded function so that the intended user can utilize the function.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 2015Date of Patent: April 3, 2018Assignee: NXP B.V.Inventors: Edward H. Patent number: 9668299Abstract: A novel solution is presented in which a MAC (Medium Access Controller) is implemented that includes multiple functionality types. This MAC may include functionality supporting communication according to one or more of the IEEE 802.11 WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) related standards and also to one or more of the standards generated by the IEEE 802.15.3 PAN (Personal Area Network) working group. By providing this dual functionality of a multi-mode WLAN/PAN MAC, a communication device may adaptively change the manner in which it communicates with other communication devices. For example, in an effort to maximize throughput and overall efficiency of communication within a communication system, certain of the various devices may change from using the WLAN related standards to using the PAN related standards, and vice versa, based on any one or more of a variety of operational parameters including system configuration.Type: GrantFiled: May 27, 2013Date of Patent: May 30, 2017Assignee: Avago Technologies General IP (Singapore) Pte. Publication number: 20160086203Abstract: In order to conduct a poll, a computer system (such as a server) identifies a subset of users based on their current locations, the current time and/or predefined profiles of the users (which specify user preferences and demographic information). Then, the computer system provides, to the portable electronic devices (such as cellular telephones) associated with the identified subset of the users, the poll with a query and predefined potential answers. Next, the computer system receives, from at least a subset of the portable electronic devices, responses to the poll, where a given response includes at least one of the predefined potential answers as a selected answer. Furthermore, the computer system may perform one or more additional operations based on the given response. For example, the computer system may provide a results summary of the selected answers received from other portable electronic devices associated with the subset of the users.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 11, 2015Publication date: March 24, 2016Applicant: Brilliant Lime, Inc.Inventors: Michael E. Publication number: 20160086204Abstract: In order to facilitate user navigation through information, a computer system (such as a server) provides polls to portable electronic devices (such as cellular telephones) associated with users, where a given poll includes a query and predefined potential answers. Then, the computer system receives, from at least a subset of the portable electronic devices, responses to the polls, where a given response includes at least one of the predefined potential answers as a selected answer. Moreover, based on the received responses and response histories (with responses to one or more previous polls) for a subset of the users associated with at least the subset of the portable electronic devices, the computer system identifies links to the information. Next, the computer system provides the links to the information to at least the subset of the portable electronic devices.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 11, 2015Publication date: March 24, 2016Applicant: Brilliant Lime, Inc.Inventors: Michael E Dove, Edward H Frank

Publication number: 20160086205Abstract: In order to conduct polls that are responded to by a target audience, a computer system (such as a server) provides portable electronic devices (such as cellular telephones) associated with users, different versions of a poll, where a given version of the poll includes a query and predefined potential answers. Then, the computer system receives, from at least a subset of the portable electronic devices, responses to the versions of the poll, where a given response includes at least one of the predefined potential answers as a selected answer. Moreover, based on profiles of a subset of the users associated with at least the subset of the portable electronic devices and information specifying the target audience of the poll, the computer system calculates the bias. Furthermore, the computer system performs remedial action based on the calculated bias to correct for the bias in the poll.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 11, 2015Publication date: March 24, 2016Applicant: BRILLIANT LIME, INC.Inventors: Michael E Dove, Edward H Frank
