Patent number: 11359872Abstract: A heat exchanger (4) comprises a heat exchanger core (20) comprising first fluid channels (22) and second fluid flow channels (24) for exchange of heat between the first and second fluids. First and second manifold portions (42, 44) are provided to guide the first and second fluids between the first and second fluid flow channels (22, 249 and first and second fluid interface portions (48, 49) which comprise fewer channels than the heat exchanger core (20). The first manifold portion (42) includes at least one tunnel portion (46) extending through the second manifold portion (44) at an angle to the direction of second fluid flow. Hence at least part of the first fluid is directed through the inside of the tunnel portion while the second fluid passes around the outside of the tunnel portion. This enables more compact heat exchanger design.Type: GrantFiled: May 18, 2018Date of Patent: June 14, 2022Assignee: HIETA TECHNOLOGIES LIMITEDInventors: Evert Hooijkamp, Niall Edward Hatfield, Ahmed Hussein, Stephen Mellor

Patent number: 7958584Abstract: A method and apparatus for measuring a size of a load in a basket that is rotatably supported is presented. The method comprises determining an acceleration energy (AE) required to accelerate the basket; determining a friction energy (FE) required to maintain a stable rotational speed of the basket; subtracting the friction energy (FE) from the acceleration energy (AE) to obtain a load inertial energy (LE); and determining a load size from the load inertial energy (LE).Type: GrantFiled: February 15, 2008Date of Patent: June 14, 2011Assignee: General Electric CompanyInventors: Richard D. Publication number: 20090107185Abstract: In one embodiment of the invention, an appliance and method is provided that can determine load imbalance or out-of-balance conditions. The appliances that typically apply load imbalance detection are clothes washers. A method of imbalance detection includes identifying parameter values that fluctuate with load imbalance over a predetermined sample period and determining a target parameter value from the identified parameter values. The method further includes calculating a parameter spread of the parameter values by comparing parameter values to the target parameter value. The method further includes converting the parameter spread into a weight value that reflects an imbalance condition.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 24, 2007Publication date: April 30, 2009Inventors: Mariano Filippa, Edward Hatfield, Richard D. Suel, II
